New equipment for my Harris's hawk (2025.01.30)

in Feathered Friends11 days ago

One of my leather goods maker friends made a new jess and an anklet for my Harris's hawk.

At least for her right leg, because the old equipment (the sewn knot on the jess) broke on it.

This time my friend made the jess with a tied knot, instead of a sewn knot.

He said that the sewn knot broke in the old jess, because the material (leather) weakened, where he inserted the needle in it.

This is why he made it with a tied knot this time.

The jess and the anklet on her left leg is still the old equipment, so that is not replaced yet.

Only on her right leg.

Hopefully this new equipment will last more than a half a year.

The old equipment (the sewn knot on the jess) broke four days ago (on 2025.01.26) in the evening.

I don't think I would be able to hold a hawk in my arm. I congratulate you.🤗😚

The first time I did this was in 2019.

Also with a female Harris's hawk.

Since then this gives me the biggest peace, happiness and love of the world.

Mostly we (my Harris's hawk and me) even sleep together (mostly she lay down on my neck)

Arranging equipment, specialized people who know the art of preparation for the bird, nice you have someone able to assist.

Where are you living now, as I have not seen you in awhile.

He is good with leather goods in general.

He made a glove too for me in the past, with first class cowhide leather.

Nowadays I indeed spend very little time online.

I am still in a tent with the cave/tent living community on South Tenerife.

My bird has a relatively good wood house made with pallets.

I am preparing to move to live in another place, but this is not easy to do, if you have any kind of animal(s).

Renting a house/room is almost completely excluded in this case.

Theoretically I found a solution.

Living in a caravan on a plot.

But this depends on a personal discussion, which will happen in the next month (somewhere around the middle of February).

Thanks for the update, great to hear you are making a life for yourself on the island. An interesting region such dramatic contrasts, Harris Hawk should love freedom of mountains.

Dude!!! the talons on that thing.
Spine chilling.

They (Harris's hawks) indeed have sharp and strong talons. They can easily grab squirrels and rabbits. Mostly they hunt in packs in the wild. They are also called the "wolves of the air".

You got a hawk? That's so cool!

Yes. A female Harris's hawk.

I spend most of the day with her.

We even sleep together.

I bought her on 2024.04.30.

She hatched on 2023.06.28, so she will be two years old on 2025.06.28.

That's great. She became a companion to you, good to hear that.
