The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Story Summary)

in Geek Zone3 years ago (edited)

Hi Geek Zone I'm new here and I wanted to break the ice by making a short summary about the history of my favorite video game. I hope you enjoy it. I warn that it contains spoilers.
This is not a tutorial, it's just a short summary of the events of Ocarina of Time.

Throughout my life (which hasn't been that long) I've played many games, but without a doubt there is one that makes me shudder every time I mention it: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, released in 1998 and stuck in our hearts forever.

This is not a story of a hero who seeks to rescue a princess. This is a story of a young man who travels through time and seeks to banish evil from the lands that are his home.

Let's start by talking about the place, Hyrule, a blessed kingdom full of melodies and extraordinary beings. The place where a great number of video games of the saga take place, it was also known as the Lower Lands.

Our protagonist, Link, lives in the Kokiri Forest, which is inhabited by children who do not age and are always dressed in green. However, the character we play is originally from the outskirts of the forest, which makes him a Hylian. Link is always aided by a luminous, winged fairy named Navi who joins him right at the start of the game, appointed by the great Deku Tree, guardian of the forest.

Navi and Link

In a dream, little Link meets Princess Zelda without knowing who she was and what she represented for him and for the destiny of the kingdom. A series of events cause Zelda and Link to meet at Hyrule Castle, where we meet the third character in conflict.

Gerudo Valley is a location in Hyrule where the desolation and arid climate common in deserts prevails. It is inhabited exclusively by Gerudo women who are paradoxically led by a man who is born once every century.

Our Hero had to live in times when the Gerudo were led by Ganondorf, a being of enormous power that seeks to obtain the Triforce, a relic capable of making its owner's wishes come true.

Now that we are clear about the antagonist in question and the heroes, let's review the adventure.

Link with the best intentions manages to open the Sacred Realm using the Ocarina of Time and three spiritual stones. This place is where the Triforce is guarded, however Ganondorf also manages to enter and touch the relic, making his dark desire to see Hyrule submerged in chaos and destruction come true.

Ganondorf Castle

But all was not lost, each fragment of the Triforce highlights a quality: Power, Wisdom and Courage, to fully possess it you must have a balance between these three forces. Therefore Ganondorf, who possesses a great darkness and an evil heart manages to get only the fragment of Power, while Link is given the fragment of Courage, and the young Princess Zelda the fragment of wisdom.

After this Link falls into a seven-year sleep and wakes up at the right age to be the hero that Hyrule needs and to be able to wield the Master Sword, a weapon that functions as a key to time travel by placing it on and removing it from its pedestal.

We have arrived at a crucial issue that is worth explaining. In this game time must be altered all the time making seven year jumps, modifying things in both moments to give solution to the conflicts of the story.

Upon awakening from his rest, Link meets the Sage of Light, who tells him that he must free five temples that imprison five of the sages capable of banishing Ganondorf. To complete these dungeons we must go back and forth in time, altering some things from the past and learning others in the present. In this mission we have the help of a mysterious character named Sheik and the inhabitants of the kingdom.

When Link manages to gather the sages, he goes to face the antagonist in his own castle, who had also captured Princess Zelda after she made a great revelation.

The final battle is obviously against Ganondorf, whom they must defeat in both his human and monster form, making it possible for the Sages to send him to the Dark Kingdom.

Link, after saving Hyrule returns to his time to live out his childhood without the threat of Ganondorf and knowing that the world will not suffer now that the enemy has been banished. The game ends with Zelda and Link in the castle courtyard as children again.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask begins with Link as a child looking for his fairy Navi who left after his mission was over.

Ocarina of Time is the point where time splits into three lines, giving way to later eras very different from each other, but those are other stories.
