Our neighbor just cut plants in their garden and this includes the Eugenia. As you are aware, Eugenia's are shrubs (or tree?) and are widely popular as privacy barriers. Many gardeners trim this in the shape of animals or human ala Edward Scissorhands 😅.
Upon seeing this, I politely asked if I can have some of the cuttings and the neighbor readily agreed. He will just throw them anyway.
I needed some outdoor plant for this bare lot in the backyard.
With this branch, I can get many cuttings as I want! Though I really need a lot since this will be trial and error. This will be the first time I will try this method called ICU Propagation.
So how did I do it?
First, I cut approximately 8 inches of the twigs.
And then take the leaves below it.
As a rooting hormone, I used cinnamon powder and dip the tip of the twigs.
For the soil, I used garden soil with vermicast (earthworm poo). They said that the soil must be loose in order for the roots to come out easily.
Planted the cinnamon-dipped twigs in the pot. You can put as many twigs as you want since this will not be their final planter. Make sure the soil is damped.
Get a plastic big enough to cover the whole pot. Clear plastic is recommended so you can see the progress of the cuttings.
Place the pot inside the plastic bag and tie its end.
Make sure that the plastic has no holes. This will hold the moisture for the next two months. Place the plastic bag in a shady area.
Whew!
Now we will wait for two months if this method will be successful, and i will let you know.
If not, I will still give an update. You deserve to know. 😅
See you in two months!
