A fabulous dinner I had recently!
There are so many books that I've read and many have had an important influence in my life, but this book that i'm going to recommend here on the blockchain is what I call a gold mine, its so important and so simple that even a 5 year old could grasp the lessons behind it and yet even when thinking about it on a deeper level it can be evolved and applied in ways that one could only imagine, just like Sun Tzu's the ART OF WAR, many concepts aren't meant to be taken literally but are to be applied in one's current situation to actually derive benefits from the lessons learned.
People always say "well that doesn't apply to me" when they visualise concepts in books but the greatest innovations have come from minds who didn't think about what applies to them, they were able to visualise themselves in the shoes of people that it applied to and then develop inventions that applied to those people and eventually it also went on to benefit the inventors, now what do I mean by this? take a look at Bill Gates, I despise using examples of filthy rich people but let me just use this important example here, Mr.Gates invented a toilet that extracts liquids from poop and turns it into clear and clean drinking water while whatever is left after the process is used as a renewable energy source for electricity (Biogas).
So why in the hell would Bill Gates think of something like that, a situation that doesn't apply to him or 1st world countries, why would he go so far as to think deeply enough to come up with such an idea that no one else would bother about, people would say its because of greed and the money but even if that's true aren't there countless other things that are capable of generating more money for a person like him? what I think is that this is the perfect way to make the best out of what you have, now why do I say this? well think about it for a second Bill Gates probably hasn't been the first person to think of an idea like this, i'm so sure that people in Africa have thought about it but Bill is a man with resources who can make those ideas come to life through action but the main point is this, to come up with such an idea he must have thought to himself "what would I do if I was in a situation like this and I had the resources to do something".
That thought alone is so powerful that genuinely if it was any other person without the resources but with some financial connections that person could come up with an attractive business idea to attract financial support, as disgusting as the process may seem its still such a simple yet revolutionary idea, even at his age and financial level this man still knows that he has to take action, he has to focus and he has to manage money to develop quality yet affordable products for the world to make use of.
THE POWER OF FOCUS
The power of focus is a book that was recommended to me by a good friend of mine, even though I stumbled upon it once before on the internet and ordered it, I never really took the time to read it until she made the recommendation and gave me the hard copy, i'm a book collector so as usual I didn't give it back straight away until mine arrived, but here the first think that attracted me when I held the book, as I read the summary I came across this quote "its good to know that common sense and ethical values still exist. An amazingly simple plan that will benefit everyone who implements it". Its the fact that the author used the words "everyone" that made the difference for me because it wasn't specifically targeted at a certain age/financial/societal group, it targeted everyone who can pickup a book and read.
He talks not just about focus but also valuable depth of thought, depth of thought and valuable depth of thought are two different things, what makes a thought valuable is what you directly gain from thinking those thoughts, why think deeply of things that do not impact you or others positively, that is wasteful thought. we must shy away from wasteful thought and always find ways to increase our productive thoughts, one of these ways I learned personally is to research on quality foods and fruits as well as daily non strenuous exercises that boost my brain power, more specifically my cerebrum.
Another good point he made was the power of asking and really this is common sense, most people suffer because they're afraid to ask or they fear rejection yet rejection is a normal response to asking, its what teaches us as human beings to be resilient and find other ways to achieve our goals or get what we want, if we do not ask then how do we know, how do we find answers without asking the right questions, the power of asking is severely underestimated because we think self reliance means not asking when actually it is the opposite.
Another point he made was learning from every source, when we think about learning we start to become bored because the world has brainwashed us into thinking that learning means going to school or reading boring stuff all in an effort to succeed at something, yet learning is so far from that, the blockchain exists because of brilliant minds who learned to make it a reality, the same goes for cryptocurrency, NFT's and other revolutionary software and code, learning can be interesting as long as we love what we learn.
I had a deep conversation with one of our members and what he said really touched me, he said "i'm always sad but you make me happy", "everybody says i'm a kid and what am I going to do in NFT's". Now aside the fact that I have no age restrictions for members in the Community since all content is safe for all ages, these things he said made me understand that the people he interacts with weren't capable of understanding his willingness to learn and to explore this new blockchain technology, they would rather have him doing something else than guide him and allow him to safely explore this fun new universe and where he would probably develop a unique skill that he probably doesn't know that he has.
Moving on to my next point is the power of consistency, another thing that is hugely taken for granted and even sometimes i'm very guilty of it, the truth is humans like to give up easily, sometimes we try so hard at something and it doesn't work out so we just stop trying when often times we are so close to succeeding on the next 4 or 5 tries. consistency is a habit that can and must be built, its no lie that we are only successful at the things that we consistently do and when we are not consistent we always find excuses, procrastination is the enemy of consistency and consistency is the fuel for progress. When we procrastinate we're not able to achieve our desired outcomes and this shock of failure leads us to procrastinate even more and eventually we give up, its always a domino effect.
He also talks about building quality relationships and that is also something i'm big on, you see quality relationships will even help you get things for free, I had bought a source code for an app that I had been working on for over a year and wanted to sell but the code was so buggy that it frustrated me throughout that year, however during that time I was providing free reviews for someone else's software, I never charged a penny for it because I felt that's a fellow developer why should I charge him anything, yet this small gesture of friendship and kindness helped me in the biggest way possible, in one of our conversations I made mention of the problems I was facing with the source code and then he said well send it over let me see, it took two days and he finally sent it back to me, he said test it out and get back to me, I did immediately and to my surprise everything was fixed, the error no longer appeared and boy was I glad. The situation taught me a lot, by building a relationship with someone in my field who was obviously smarter and more well equipped than I was at at the time I was able to directly derive a benefit from his expertise without bearing any cost!.
The Power Of Focus by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen and Les Hewitt is a book that I recommend for everyone of all ages to read, its concise and effective, provokes thought and will have a lasting impression on you.
