[ENG/ESP] Haciendo hallacas por una buena causa🌲🫶🏻

Una gran las facetas más importantes de mi vida está representada por hacer voluntariado y está semana teníamos una actividad macro con niños en una comunidad y es por esto que nos aventuramos a hacer el plato típico navideño todos sin mucha experiencia y haciendo un mix de las recetas de todas nuestras casas. Si eres venezolano puedes dar fé de que todas las casas tienen su "valor agregado" para la hallaca, ese sabor distintivo y particular de cada familia.

Comenzamos el día jueves picando las cosas y dejando macerar el guiso que es CRUDO porque nosotros somos andinos y el viernes fue el día de armado y cocción. Si les soy sincera, jamás en mi vida había armado una hallaca y esa fue la tarea que yo asumí pero si había echado bastante ojo a mi abuelita y creo que me fue bastante bien.

Los demás tomaron otros papeles como limpiar las hojas, cerrar las hallacas y amarrarlas y honestamente armamos una cadena de producción que funcionó bastante bien porque trabajamos bastante rápido y las hallacas quedaron deliciosas.

Hoy sábado tuvimos la actividad y los niños dejaron esos platos vacíos así que fue muy buena seña. La moraleja de esto es que, personas con mucha voluntad pueden hacer grandes cosas y que si salimos de nuestra zona de confort podemos hacer cosas buenas como muchas hallacas 🫶🏻.

One of the most important facets of my life is volunteering and this week we had a macro activity with children in a community and that is why we ventured to make the typical Christmas dish all without much experience and making a mix of recipes from all our homes. If you are Venezuelan you can attest that all the houses have their "added value" for the hallaca, that distinctive and particular flavor of each family.

We started on Thursday chopping things and letting the stew macerate, which is RAW because we are Andean, and Friday was the day of assembly and cooking. To be honest, I had never made a hallaca in my life and that was the task I took on, but I had kept a close eye on my grandmother and I think I did pretty well.

The others took on other roles such as cleaning the sheets, closing the hallacas and tying them and honestly we put together a production line that worked quite well because we worked quite fast and the hallacas were delicious.

Today Saturday we had the activity and the children left those plates empty so it was a very good sign. The moral of this is that, people with a lot of willpower can do great things and if we get out of our comfort zone we can do good things like many hallacas 🫶🏻.
