Letting him discover the truths you see is a good way to go too. As the eldest I'm well aware of the responsibility of keeping siblings in check. It's also good that you are not bothering him with your advice but presenting it in a form of a suggestion, guiding him to think for himself and assess the situation before a decision. Well done.
