Is it a Girl or a Boy? April 09, 2023
Grace and I decided to also do a Gender Reveal celebration like what we usually see today in social media from couples expecting a baby. The baby inside my wife’s tummy will be our very first offspring and everybody has been guessing the gender. Perhaps, they are just showing their excitement for us as soon-to-be-parents.
In Grace’s recent prenatal, she was told by the doctor that she may or may not undergo an ultrasound called CAS or Congenital Anomaly Scan which will tell if there are physical abnormalities. Although, this was not highly requested by the doctor because Grace and I have no family history on such conditions. Despite this, we decided to have the CAS and also to know the gender of our first baby.
This was the beginning of our plan to have a gender-reveal event. But since we also wanted to be surprised, I told Grace to tell the doctor to not talk about the gender of the baby during the procedure. According to Grace, the doctor was very game on this request, she was even told also by the doctor to close her eyes so that she would not see the sex of our baby on the monitor.
We requested a very close friend (Ann) to organize a gender-reveal event. We clearly instructed her that she should keep the gender to herself only. When she agreed, we handed her the results of the ultrasound. And everything about the gender reveal was prepared by Ann.
We had a very simple set-up of our stage. All materials used for the gender reveal costs us less than 18 USD excluding the cake which costs 20 USD. However, we were very happy of the outcome.
The event started by asking the guest to pick their guess of the gender of our baby and then pose for a picture. This was fun for me because we get to see their individual guesses. Here they are...
After the pictorial, we decided to start the fun games for everyone. It was a bit difficult to gather the people to play because some were already enjoying the beach. But, it was still very fun and exciting!
The Gender Reveal Games
I hosted the gender reveal games because I really enjoy hosting fun parlor games. I was a certified party host of Jollibee during college days so that explains, right? Most games that we played here are the most common games in Gender Reveal taken from the internet.
Gender Reveal Game 1: Paper Plate Flip. This game can be played by two teams; Team Boy and Team Girl. The game is played using paper plates with boy and girl stickers. The goal of each team is to have their paper plate face up and their opponents face down. The team who has the most number of paper plates facing up wins the game.
Gender Reveal Game 2: A to Z Names. This game is played by two teams; Team Boy and Team Girl. The goal of each team is to write A to Z names of boys if from Team Boy, and A to Z names of girls if from Team Girl. Who knows the couple might refer the name of the baby from this game.
- Gender Reveal Game 3: Feeding Bottle Game. This game is played by a pair. The pair runs to the chair with a feeding bottle, the acting parent should put the acting baby on his/her lap and then feed the acting baby. The first pair whose acting baby drink all the milk or juice from the feeding bottle should shout, "It's a Boy" or "It's a Girl" and should be declared as the winners.
- Gender Reveal Game 4: Balloon Delivery Challenge. This game is played solo. Each player should put a balloon inside his or her shirt to resemble a pregnant woman. The player could jump or dance extravagantly in order to push the balloon down while their hands are placed on top of their heads.
The Most Awaited Part: The Gender Reveal
After playing the games, we were very excited to know the gender. I got the popper and Grace prepared the stick to pop the balloon.
My guess was a girl because I see no changes in my wife except for the fact that her tummy is growing and she is embracing pregnancy beautifully, but I was also having second thoughts because most of our friends and colleagues think that it is a boy. I personally want to have a baby girl as the eldest child because I see so many eldest daughters that are very responsible and caring to their siblings. But of course, I also want a mini-me!
Grace vote was a boy because boys and sons are very rare in their family. She has a sister, her cousins are mostly girls, and their children are also girls. Grace wants a baby boy but since most of the people guessed that it is a boy because of the changes in her body and face which I think is very normal for a pregnant woman, she wants it to be a girl, to prove them wrong. 😅 She was indeed very happy that it is a girl.
