Our Daughter's Little Miss UN Journey

Hello, Hive family and friends! I wish you well as you read this new blog. May you receive peace and joy in your family circle.

Here in the Philippines, United Nations Day is celebrated every month of October. As the month starts, our daughter said that she'll be joining the UN Day to represent our country. I tried to convince her of not joining because it would make us spend money for the costume and for the other expenses. She agreed with a very sad face. When we arrived home from school, my wife narrated what happened in school. Our daughter begged her to join the program, and when my wife answered that we don't have enough money to spend for the expenses, she responded that she has money.

She referred to the money given by Ma'am Suset, a colleague of my wife. She has coins in her purse that touched my heart and even made my tears fall. I feel sad for her since I even tried to convince her not to join. I then told my wife that we'd just let her join and order the costume for Ms. Philippines. When I told our daughter about it, she was so happy and thankful for our decision. She even promised to practice the walk and other parts of the program.

We ordered the costume online. We received it after a week. My wife needed to make adjustments since the costume is bigger than our daughter's size. My wife also asked me to help her set up the wings as props. The costume was inspired by the national costume of Ms. Universe Philippines 2020, Rabiya Mateo. I looked for ways to make the wings straight once worn by our daughter.

The UN day

The scheduled date for the event was October 25, 2024. They were supposed to have a practice days before the event day. But because of the severe tropical storm Kristine, face-to-face classes were suspended from October 22 to 24. We thought that it would be moved to the following week, but my wife's principal said that they need to continue the event as planned even without a practice because they have lots of upcoming activities in school.

I told our daughter that I'd be coming to her school to watch her performance. She was so happy to hear it and got excited about the event. I asked permission from our school head that I will be attending the UN day of the central school to show my support for our daughter. I arrived at the central school before 1:00 pm. When Jehoia heard that I arrived, she immediately came to me to show her make-up done by her mom. I said to her that she looks too beautiful, which made her happier. She always wanted to be with me, and my presence made her more confident in joining the event.

The Little Miss Philippines

When we went to the covered court, the venue of their UN day, the masters of the ceremony asked the learners to get ready for the processional. I had no idea that our daughter is the first to enter for the grand entrance of the little Mr. and Ms. UN. I keep on telling her that she can do it and to always wear her smile. I know that she'll feel the pain of carrying the wings. But I was confident that she would endure it for the sake of her performance.

My heart was full of happiness looking at our baby girl, who was fast-growing each day. One day, I would surely miss the moments that she's very close to me. This journey of hers would help her develop her full potential as a kindergarten learner.

Showing our support to our kids means a lot to them. Appreciating their small wins would make them more confident, and of course it helps in building a good character. My wife and I are like healing our inner child. We want to show our kids the support we never had when we were like them. We may see them happy, but we are the happiest.

Thank you for reading my blog. Thank you for your support. Till next time.

Her heart lept for joy when you agreed to let her join the event. She is adorable and looks so lovely in her outfit. It was worth every dollar spent to let her see her dream come true. A memory she will carry her whole lifetime. Well done! ♥

Yes, you are right @sunscape. Thank you for your kind words. It fills my heart with gladness.

When I was a kid, I badly wanted to join U.N.too. however, my parents couldn't afford so I never had a experience.

So daughter was pretty and seeing her face was an evidence how happy she was

Sulit the expenses.

Yes @lhes. She was indeed happy and I noticed too that she's no longer shy at school. Thank you for the support. 🫶

It's a nice experience for the students to choose what country they want to prtray. When I was in highschool I really love this kind of event since it's time to showcase our beloved country as well as the country that you wanted to portray.

Yes, we are proud to represent our country. Thank you so much for taking the time reading my blog. 🫶
