Child-rearing and empathy

Raising kids. 🙂

Parents all over the world have repeatedly said that conceiving and birthing is not even the burden of child-rearing (that is not to say birthing of children does not take it enormous and strenous toil on women, that would be a big lie on my part) that the real deal lies in rearing a child from infancy to adulthood. It is easier to rear an animal than a human, animals respond to sincere love and care when showered and noticed, trusting implicity, however, humans are a different game entirely. You could shower all your love and attention on a human and still the reciprocated love, admiration and respect may be minimal, if even present.

With kids, you might succeed for a while because a youngling is essentially a clean slate, an open mind for nurturing, free of the emotions that make us adults or that differentiate us from another, although the defining traits start showing as the months progress. However, as a child grows up, its defining character becomes set, with this come varying emotions and responses. To a parent who lacks empathy and the needed maturity, the actions of such a child can be taken as acts of disrespect, stupidity, stubborness, to mention a few. Discerning parents however, see beyond the reactions and increase their love and understanding towards such child (which are you?🙂).

To this vein, due to the level of understanding we have about life as adults and the experiences we have come across, we might get irritated towards our children when they exhibit traits that we find unbecoming or stupid because we ordinarily feel that they should know better because we know better! (How absurd!😄🙂) Kids see the world from their inexperience and innocence, hence, the expectation from them is unreasonable.

As parents, as adults, empathize with a child, resist the urge to loose you cool when triggered and remember, a child is not YOU but HIMSELF!
