Speaking of the house for my family reunion, I do not think any is defined. Apart from the good old days when we lived together and traveled back every December for Christmas, I do not think we have as a family had a reunion. That notwithstanding, their is one time we all had the opportunity to gather together for a purpose. It was the first and the last after we went our separate ways in search of our supposed destiny leaving my parents and youngest brother at home. Though everyone of us have had reasons to travel home once in a while, but we have not being at home all at once after the last.
As at 2016, it was the case that I lived with all of my siblings in the house with my parents. We are a nuclear family since my father is the last from his linage, it was a family of seven. Apart from the seven of us, there is one that never grew with us; it is my half brother Emeka and it was his wedding that last brought I, my siblings and parents together. Emeka is my mother's first son and we are strongly connected irrespective of the fact that we never grew together.
Every twenty second of December to be precise, it was the case that the seven of us gather as a family to travel to my father's house in the village. My family held from Nnokwa community of Anambra state [Nigeria], but we lived in the City of Port Harcourt. Our major reason for traveling as my father will always say is to remind us of where we come from, but beyond that, it was always fun. In the year 2017 when I traveled to Ibadan for the first time coupled with the fact that my elder had also relocated to Ihiala [in Anambra State] for the same academic pursuit which took me away from home, the practice naturally died. Thank God for Emeka's wedding which brought about what I would refer to as our first family reunion.
I may not be able to remember the particular dates, but it was on the month of April in the year 2018. As God may have it, Emeka married a girl from the same community from which we our family held. Given the traditional ways, the wedding must be done in the house of the bride. We eventually had to come back home and spend sometime in my father's house before going our separate ways once again. Emeka never had the opportunity to spend so much time with us given the wedding preparations, but we still had fun.
Emeka's wedding was a success but the most amazing thing about the period of time we spent in my father's house was not the wedding, it was the fact that we all had the opportunity to be together after a while. It is a period filled with unforgettable moments.
