In this opportunity, I'll make you a mini-blog about our touristic visit to Parque de la Sirena located in Guanta, Edo Anzoátegui. This recreational park is a tropical rainforest area which has an incredible variety of plant species, as well as a diverse animal population. There are no large predators in this ecological reserve, but there are several types of snakes, butterflies, spiders and lizards that can be found here.
It was a spectacular tour where at first we were a little late because my family and I live a little far from where we would meet my uncle and his family to transport us to the place where it is located. But at least we got there, and even more so when we got lost twice to get in and once to get out of the place hahahaha. Honestly you can see the vast vegetation there, the majestic trees and all very spectacular. You can see that the pools are turquoise green, plus you could find places to grill and cook. Also that every time you went up you found a waterfall, another one and so on until you reached the biggest one which is the Mermaid waterfall.
We had been told that it is so named because where the water comes out you can see the formation of a mermaid's tail, however, for many Guanteños it has a more magical meaning, full of myths and legends.
According to what we were told, there was a young girl with white skin, green eyes, yellow hair like the sun and very long, who had love affairs with a young man, a relationship from which she became pregnant but he did not reciprocate. The girl hid her condition and at the end of nine (9) months of gestation she went into the dark forest and gave birth to a boy. In her desperation, seeing herself alone, with the fear of being condemned to a society that did not admit her condition of being a single mother, she gave up her son, since then her soul had no peace and flooded by the memory of that horrendous crime she spent the rest of her life wandering and crying in the area of the waterfall until she finally died drowned in the pool of what is now known as the pool of “La Sirena”.
Also while we were there we were told that at night a beautiful woman comes out of the water of the waterfall then floats on a cloud and from there she throws herself into the water on a stone known as “the Stone of the drowned” from where she returns to the waterfall, until she reaches the top then from the top she falls transformed into a fish and descends to the pond. They say that whoever sees all this transformation, should stay away and not see how the fish begins to die because it is said that when the fish is dying the pool is filled with gold and they say that whoever is blinded by the glitter of wealth and dares to take that treasure leaning over the river bank will be held and plunged into the water where he will be drowned.
This story scared me so much that I almost didn't take a bath. I can tell you that where the square stone “Piedra del ahogado” is, it is very deep and my partner was about to drown too. What surprised me is that there were children who bathed right in that area and climbed between the stones of the waterfall to jump from above to the pool. This was also very brave.
Well, we also had a barbecue which we ate a lot and it was very good, they gave us torreja, coconut kisses (typical Venezuelan sweet). And well, we were able to distract us a lot and have fun. My family and I enjoyed it a lot, we walked around a lot exploring and taking lots of pictures. We were able to see that, climbing up, there was another pool, and besides that we were at the top of the waterfall. It was fun and interesting.
As a curious fact, in the vicinity of this beautiful natural park, the Telenovela Negra consentida, produced by Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV) (In Venezuela) was filmed between 2004 and 2005. Original by Valentina Párraga and written by Henry Herrera, this production starred Ligia Petit and Pedro Rendón. With the stellar performances of Caridad Canelón, Jean Carlo Simancas, and the antagonistic participation of Eileen Abad and Miriam Ochoa.

En esta oportunidad, les realzaré un miniblog sobre nuestra visita turística al Parque de la Sirena ubicada en Guanta, Edo Anzoátegui. Este parque recreacional es una zona de bosque tropical la cual tiene una increíble variedad de especies vegetales, así como una diversa población animal. No hay grandes depredadores en esta reserva ecológica, pero hay varios tipos de serpientes, mariposas, arañas y lagartos que se pueden encontrar aquí.
Fue un recorrido espectacular donde al principio llegamos medio tarde porque como mi familia y yo vivimos un poco lejos de donde nos encontraríamos con mi tío y su familia para transportarnos hacia el lugar donde está ubicado. Pero al menos si llegamos, y más aún cuando nos habíamos perdido dos veces para entrar y una vez para salir del lugar hahahaha. Sinceramente se puede ver la basta vegetación que hay, los majestuosos árboles y todo muy espectacular. Se puede ver que las pozas son de color verde turquesa, además de que se encontrabas sitios para hacer parrilla y cocinar. También que cada vez que ibas subiendo te encontrabas con una cascad, otra y así poco a poco hasta llegara la más grande que es la cascada de la Sirena.
Nos habían comentado que recibe el nombre así porque donde sale el agua se puede ver la formación de la cola de una Sirena, sin embargo, para muchos Guanteños tiene un significado más mágico, lleno de mitos y leyendas.
Según nos contaron que había una joven de piel blanca, ojos verdes, cabellera amarilla como el sol y muy larga la cual tuvo amores con un joven, relación de la cual salió embarazada pero el mismo, no le correspondió. La muchacha escondió su estado y llegado a término los nueve (9) meses de gestación se internó en lo oscuro del monte y dio a luz a un niño varón. En su desesperación al verse sola, con el miedo de ser condenada a una sociedad que no admitía su condición de ser madre soltera desvivió a su hijo, desde entonces su alma no tuvo paz e inundad por el recuerdo de ese horrendo crimen paso el resto de su vida vagando y llorando por la zona de la cascada hasta que finalmente se murió ahogada en la poza de lo que ahora se conoce como la poza de “La Sirena”.
También mientras estábamos ahí nos comentaron que en la noche sale una bella mujer del agua de la cascada luego flota sobre una nube y desde ahí se lanza al agua sobre una piedra conocida como “la Piedra del ahogado” desde donde regresa a la cascada, hasta llegar a la parte superior luego desde la cima cae transformada en pez y desciende hasta la charca. Dicen que quien ve toda esta transformación, se debe alejar y no ver como el pez empieza a morir pues se dice que cuando el pez esta moribundo la poza se llena de oro y dicen que quien cegado por el brillo de la riqueza y se atreve tomar ese tesoro inclinándose sobre la orilla del rio será sujetado e hundido en el agua donde será ahogado.
A mí esa historia me dio mucho miedito y por lo cual casi ni me bañe. Si le puedo decir que donde está la piedra cuadrada “Piedra del ahogado” es muy honda y mi pareja estuvo a punto de ahogarse también. Lo que me sorprendió es que había niños que se bañaban justamente en esa zona y se subían entre las piedras de la cascada para tirarse desde más arriba hasta la poza. Lo cual también lo vi muy valiente.
Bueno, también realizamos una parrillita de la cual comimos bastante y estaba muy buena, nos dieron torreja, besos de coco (dulce típico de Venezuela). Y bueno, nos pudios distraer bastante y divertirnos. Mi familia y yo, lo disfrutamos mucho, caminamos bastante explorando y tomando muchas fotos. Pudimos ver que, escalando, más arriba había otra poza, y además de que estuvimos en la cima de la cascada. Fue divertido e interesante.
Como dato curioso, en las inmediaciones de este hermoso parque natural, se filmó la Telenovela Negra consentida, producida por Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV) (En Venezuela) entre los amos 2004 y 2005. Original de Valentina Párraga y escrita por Henry Herrera, esta producción, fue protagonizada por Ligia Petit y Pedro Rendón. Con las actuaciones estelares de Caridad Canelón, Jean Carlo Simancas, y las participaciones antagónicas de Eileen Abad y Miriam Ochoa.
