It is that time of the year where Cebu City helds its annual Sinulog festival. It takes place every third Sunday of January. As for this year, it was celebrated last January 19 2025. It marks the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines. As a Roman Chatolic, I did not miss the chance to celebrate with my friends.
It was the perfect time to reunite with my college best friends whom I have not seen for quite some time now.
My college best friend worked for an airbnb BPO account where they had some free access to some available airbnbs here in the Philippines. He chose to gave us the free stay here and he used his other credits when he celebrated his birthday.
It was a good timing that he had his free access during Sinulog season, because during this time of the year in Cebu City, people are really on the quest of finding hotel rooms available. As early as November, hotels are already fullybooked for the annual Sinulog Festival celebration in Cebu City.
The airbnb my friend rented is located in Mabolo, which is a good spot to prevent the traffic area in Cebu City downtown. Since the Sinulog festival celebration is back to Cebu City downtown, it is expected that the traffic is very congested.
We striked a pose before going to the Basilica Minore Del Sto. Niño, where we attended the 6:00 pm mass in honor of the fiesta celebration.
Regardless of the airbnb location not being affected by the traffic, there is still difficulties in finding a mode of transportation. We waited patiently until we got into a jeepney going to T Padilla St which is just walking distance to Basilica Minore Del sto. Niño.
We stopped at CTU MAIN CAMPUS and walked headed towards the church, as I expected there were a lot of people hiding to wards to church. There are lot of devotes bringing there own chairs and minifan. It is already expected that there will be no chairs to sit on and yhea weather will be humid since there a lot of people.
While walking in the street, I saw a lot of devotees bringing their Sto Niño replicas. I also brought mine.
There is a song in a specific part of the mass where we sing “BATOBALANI SA GUGMA” and raise our Sto Niños. It is such a heart-warming part. After the mass, there was a grand fireworks display.
After all the walking, we were so hungry so we decided to have dinner at The Barracks At Carbon Market Cebu.
This is at Colon Night Market. Before we will reach The Barracks, we will pass by at the night market and we also bought some snacks.
We bought strawberry tanghulu for fifty pesos.
When we arrived at The Barracks located in the Carbon Market, Cebu City, we ate the famous tuslob buwa from Luy’s and ordered some lechon. We all had Cebuano favorites.
It was such a fun and blessed night indeed. PIT SENYOR!
