Good Day, My Dear Hivers!
First General Assembly of the Psychology Department
This was actually our first general assembly in the Psychology Department, and they sent an announcement in our mother group chat as well as posted it on our department's Facebook page.
The assembly was scheduled to start at 1 PM, but since I had work that day, I decided to go around 3 PM for the recognition part. I had already asked permission from my superior, and she said yes because my coworker in the office didn’t have any classes, so they were free, and it wasn’t a particularly busy time at the office.
Should I Go Before 3 PM?
I was hesitant about whether I should go before 3 PM because I also wanted to know what they were discussing in the meeting. So, I came up with a plan and messaged my younger sibling, who was attending the assembly, to ask what the meeting was about.
My sibling made sure to attend since attendance was required, and there was a penalty for those who didn’t. In my case, it was okay for me to arrive later since working students like me were excused.
Even though I already knew what the meeting was about, part of me still wanted to go. To distract myself, I focused on the paperwork in front of me at the office and wrote down what needed to be done.
Heading to the Venue
A few hours later, I asked my superiors for permission again, then took a tricycle to Pandan Covered Court, where the assembly was being held. It was the perfect venue since our Psychology population had grown.
Before, all students from first to fourth year could fit in one room, but now that’s no longer the case. In my batch, we only have one section, but the first and second years already have two. I feel so proud seeing more students choose and enroll in this course. It’s a great sight during meetings to see our numbers growing.
When I arrived, all the seats in the center were already occupied, so I sat at the back, where students from other courses were sitting. It seemed like they were there to meet their close friends, maybe planning to go home together.
Surprise Arrival at the Recognition
As soon as I sat down, my younger sibling’s classmates noticed me and told my sibling I was there. My sibling immediately looked at me and smiled. Meanwhile, my classmates hadn’t noticed me yet since they thought I wouldn’t be attending.
I arrived just in time for the recognition part of the assembly. I had already confirmed with my sibling that the recognition was about to start, so when my name was called, I went to the front.
My friends and classmates were surprised to see someone walking up—they initially thought it was my sibling since we have the same posture and height. But when I turned to face the crowd, they realized it was actually me.
When I returned to my seat, my classmates offered me a chair and said, "Sit here." The third-year students were sitting in that area, so I joined them.
After sitting down, they asked if I had just arrived, and I said, "Just in time for the recognition part." They responded, "That’s why we didn’t notice you earlier!"
Picture-Taking and Proud Moments
After the assembly, we had a picture-taking session with my classmates. We all received recognition papers, and we were so proud of ourselves.
