Gathering Around the Christmas Eve: A Tradition and Tale of Cheers

Gathering Around the Christmas Eve: A Tradition and Tale of Cheers

Hello, dear Hivers, it's beginning to look like Christmas. How are you? I hope you are all doing well in your respective homes. Welcome to another "blogserye" (blog series) featuring our Christmas Eve celebration together with my not-so-big family. Come and join me in celebrating the Filipino tradition and tale of cheers.

It was December 24th, and we are all busy preparing for the Christmas Eve to come. Early in the morning I was asked by my mother to shred some young "buko" (coconut) for our fruit salad. Fruit salad is one of the desserts that never go out from each and every Filipino table, whatever the occasion may be. Afterwards, I then prepared to make some arrangements for our table, making it ready for the gathering. It was a busy day for me since I was left to cook some of the food and dessert.

After the fruit salad has been made, I then proceed with making the "maja blanca," or white corn pudding. It was a disaster, I must say, HAHAH🤣. Here's why, my mother picked the wrong ingredient; instead of cornstarch, she mistakenly picked all-purpose flour, hahahah; there's more. After I cook and place the pudding in the mold, my brother tastes it and says, "Why is this tasteless?" I thought he was just playing joke, but when I actually taste it, it was indeed blunt and tasteless.

That's the time that I realized that I forgot to put the white sugar and condensed milk, hahah🤣. My mom decided to put the sugar and condensed milk and mix it together with the pudding despite it not being cooked together, and it turns out to be actually good; it tasted good compared the last time, but the downside is that, the pudding wasn't able to set because I mixed it with sugar and condensed milk while it was out of the fire. Anyway, it was still savory and delicious, hahah.

After the pudding, I then proceed to grilling the bangus and slicing the ham and cooking it one-by-one. The other dishes were cooked by my mom and my auntie; we were indeed extending our helping hands just to make our gathering more special. After all the food and desserts were cooked and prepared, we then set them on the table, ready for dinner.

Each member of the extended family was then called for dinner. This is the joy of having Christmas Eve together with family. We invited my auntie from my mother's side together with her family, and my "lola" (grandmother) also from my mother's side. We then eat for dinner out and cheer for a tradition of joy. Indeed, there's nothing that can replace the joy and bond of having such a quality time and dinner with your family. From my family to everyone who believes in the magic of Christmas, Merry Christmas. I hope we will not lack blessings and food to eat on our tables. Life may not be the same for everyone, but what's more important is the gift of life we have; just by that, we are more than fortunate.

That's all for now, Hivers. I hope you've enjoyed reading my blog, and HAPPY HOLIDAYS🎄🥳. Help me reach a bigger audience by upvoting, commenting, and reblogging. Have a great day ahead, everyone. See you in my next blog. Bye-bye! 👋💗🌷✨
