Egg-cellent Baking Day with the Fam: More Than Just Baking, It’s About Family

It was my first time to bake with my cousins, and to make it more exciting, the first thing we made was egg pie. This is for the cookery output of one of my cousins for their class. Honestly, the experience was very fun because it was my first time to bake. Because usually, I'm just at home, reading books and keeping myself entertained. I don't get to experience this often because my cousins are quite far from us. One plane ride is needed for us to meet.

But every time there is a chance, every moment seems so special. They are the reason why I experience things that I only do for the first time. They often invite me to join them on their walks or on new things they want to try. I kept thinking, even though we grew up together in Lola's house then, the difference in our lives is still huge.

While we are baking, we watch a tutorial video to make sure the process is correct. As the oldest of the three of us, I was happy because somehow, I was helping them.

But while we were doing that, I realized that even though I'm the oldest, we seem to be the same. It's like I'm back to being a kid again, just like them, just learning every step of the way. Because I'm always at home and I rarely try new things, I only get to go out when I'm with them usually.

I am very thankful to my cousins. I feel that they really want me and my twin sister to be with them in their bonding moments. Even though we rarely see each other now, they give me the opportunity to be with them. They also never forget to share stories about their lives, their friends, the school they attend, and the people they meet there. It's like we're really sisters. Actually, they are like my sisters and youngest even though we are only cousins.

We did so many things first before we finished baking, we took TikTok videos and cleaned the house. After, we tasted our finished product. My uncle said it tasted like "tortillas"—which is technically an egg dish, but is it really an egg pie? Hahahaha! I don't know if the taste is right for the egg pie, but the important thing is, we had fun while making it. For me, the time we spent together is enough.

In the end, I realized that even though we rarely see each other, our bond never goes away. We always talk online, and even though we're far apart, I still feel like we're together. The egg pie, even though it's not perfect, is very special to me because I made it with the people who are important to me. It's just the joy of feeling that there are moments like this that are created with them. It feels just right to spend time with the people I treasure the most.
