New Year Food Recipe: I Prefer Jellof Rice And Why

During Yuletide season comes with many blessings. We get to meet each other and merrier together. In African societies, we lives in a nucleated family setting with our extended families of generations of uncles, aunties, cousins and wives. We get together in our village from every part of the world to celebrate the Yuletide season. After from getting to know each other, we enjoys good food and drinks together.

As the New year eve comes by, as tomorrow will be. Our mothers, aunties, wives, sister and all the women folks in our household lead by our oldest grandmother will prepare many kind of food cuisine which ranges from our local soups and a bit of international dishes too. Everyone have equal rights to choose to eat from any pot of their choice. It unites us together despite our financial and any other challenges.

As the food are being prepared, it will be served before everyone. As we reclined on our chairs and form a very big circle under a mango tree at our village Square. There's an assorted drinks and meat of various size before us as we celebrate our survival and existence for the year and wish for better next year. One striking thing is that I prefer Jellof rice and Palm wine during the event. Reason is well known and I joined them in it's preparations. Let me share the recipe with you and it's significance.

Jellof rice is one of the commonest food cuisine that spread across Africa continent. It is very famous and I believe that some people outside Africa tribes still enjoy this special food. Although it's origin is still debatable but many factors suggested that it came from Sierra Lone and Mail region. Because rice have become more staple and common, every part of Africa, if not the world enjoys this kind of food.

The recipe for the preparation of Jellof rice is very simple and common. Because of its simplicity, everyone can cook this kind of food and it's good taste is very unique. There's flexibility in the choose of the ingredients, recipe and it's process for Jellof rice so everyone can cook a tasteful and edible food. But I still prefer the type, cooked by my mothers because of their unique recipe and method of cooking. It is still the best kind of Jellof rice in the world.

After sieving and washing the rice with good water to be free from stone, dirts and dust. It will be per boiled for some minutes. During this period, every other ingredients are getting ready. Meats will cooked, seasoned and fried with tasteful flavors. Onions, pepper, garlic, tomatoes and other seasonings are fried to form the delicious sauce for the food. Enough water will be added to the sauce and the per-boiled rice will added and turned favorably for the cooking of the food. After waiting for some time, the food is ready to be served.

However, Jellof rice might not be the best food in the table during the celebration but I prefer it happily. It can be served with any kind of drinks. Many people choose soft drinks and water but I choose palm wine. This kind of drinks is brewed from palm tree. It is very tasty, alcoholic and nutritious. While we are eating and discussing with one another. We enjoyed till next year for better days ahead.
