Hello, mates!💗 Back at it again with another blog. Today, I'm going to share my experience of dancing a cultural dance for our Philippine Indigenous Community subject with my classmates. Taking part in this dance made me appreciate our culture so much more. It was such a fun experience and a great way to bond with my classmates while celebrating something so important. The Philippines has a rich culture, and its festivals have been one of its best.
A team effort performance
The performance was a team effort by our entire section, so we worked together as one. To make it more organized, we divided the class into three groups, each presenting a different festival in the Philippines. We chose to showcase the Panagbenga Festival in Baguio, the Sinulog Festival in Cebu, and the Manobo Festival in Mindanao. We only had a very short time to practice due to a packed school schedule; having said that, we still delivered an excellent performance. With our teamwork and dedication, everything went smoothly and great.
The colorful performance of first group
I was assigned to the Panagbenga Festival, also known as the Baguio Flower Festival. It is a long month celebration that runs from February to March. The highlight of the festival is the Grand Float Parade, where meticulously crafted floats adorned with colorful flowers parade through the streets of Baguio.
In our group, one of our classmates made sure to include a flower choreo to highlight the essence and significance of the festival. The dance steps were made to look like flowers blooming, which added a creative touch to our presentation. Our performance was lively and colorful.
The joyous performance of second group
For the Sinulog Festival, this group was the second to perform. The Sinulog Festival is Cebu's most exciting celebration, and it is held every third Sunday of January. This festival honors Santo Niño, the child Jesus, and showcases the Filipino spirit of faith, unity, and merriment.
The second group had a very lively performance. They used loud and catchy music for the dance. The way they moved together really brought the festival's energy to life. They were all using a DIY candle as props to add a unique touch to their performance.
The tribal performance of third group
Lastly, for the last group, they showcase the beauty of the Manobo Festival in Mindanao. The Manobo Festival is lively and honors the Manobo people and their rich culture. The festival showcases the tribe's connection to nature and their spiritual traditions.
The last group showed a wonderful performance that featured distinct dance movements. They have their leaves and props that symbolize their connection to nature. The smoothness of their movements left a great impression on everyone.
This experience with my classmates has been memorable. Even though we had little time to prepare, it didn't stop us from giving a great performance.
Each of us contributed to the success through our dedication and hard work. From planning and practicing to selecting our costumes, we worked together to make everything come together ✨
