Muchas gracias.

A demonstration of solidarity, amidst family and friends (English/Spanish)

21e7f75a-e2c2-4ffc-be6b-bb176ed836d7.jpeg

A friendly greeting to this beautiful community Family & Friends, it is a pleasure for me to be in your midst for the first time. I dare to share an interesting experience. I hope you will like it.
Belonging to a society from birth is the most natural thing that all citizens of the world have. Travelling in different parts of the world gives us the possibility to get to know other societies, different cultures in terms of their way of eating, their way of dressing, their way of speaking, how they live their daily lives, their daily chores. Even without actually travelling, we can see it on television. However, I have never seen anything like it, I will tell you.
In my case, a few days ago I was able to experience something that I had not experienced directly; I confess that I had heard about these activities on some occasions, but I had not had the opportunity to feel it directly, so much so, that it has touched the fibres of my heart and I want to share it with you in this beautiful community.

To put it in context, my wife, Neira, is a native of a remote village nestled in the mountains, called Guania in the municipality of Seboruco, located in the north of the state of Táchira in Venezuela. The fact is that her mother, Mrs. Petra, suffered a fall that caused her to fracture the head of her femur, which required urgent surgery and the implantation of a hip prosthesis. The reality is that the family did not have the financial resources to pay for this operation. Something extraordinary happened, so that the operation could be performed, family, friends and neighbours called the community to a meeting, as they understood that it was an emergency, as the expenses amounted to 2,650 dollars.
On the afternoon of 25 June, a large number of people gathered at the village clinic to discuss and discuss the funds that needed to be raised to cover the costs of the operation. To this end, they agreed to organise a community sale on 8 and 9 July. Among the tasks to be carried out were: preparation and sale of cakes and pies. Preparation and sale of sancochos and mondongo. Sale of roast meat. Sale of spirits. Sale of soft drinks and sparkling wine. Raffles of different items collected. Auction of a calf. Auction of a piglet, among others.
To attract the attendance of the public, on both nights there would be the presence of musical groups from the area, live music from the mountains. A professional sound amplifier would be hired, as well as a person to entertain the event.
Obeying the guidelines of previous activities, the responsibilities were divided into different commissions, the tasks to be carried out were to go to the neighbouring villages to collect food, vegetables, money, vegetables, they agreed among the organising commission, to buy a beef, to sell roast meat and to be used in all the planned activities.

The participation of all the villagers, family and friends was total, practically the whole village turned out in full.

And the big day arrived. I attended in the afternoon of July 8th and all day July 9th I was in the activity. I couldn't get over the astonishment of seeing all the neighbours working for a single cause that united them, that identified them, to collect funds to cover emergency expenses, it was about Mrs. Petra, who needed this support to recover her quality of life, to be able to walk again.
In my life I had never witnessed such an enormous manifestation of solidarity, it was not alms, it was simply an irrefutable demonstration of how to show solidarity with a person in need.

And the big day came. I attended in the afternoon of 8 July and all day on 9 July I was at the activity.

I must say that it is not the first time that this community carries out this type of activity, when it comes to economic limitations in relation to health, it is the main reason why the whole community turns to do this type of event, which in itself brings together many people from nearby towns and villages.

I can tell you what I observed during the activity: excellent organisation, people fully committed to their tasks and responsibilities, a lot of discipline and dedication, a lot of enthusiasm and motivation to achieve the objective. A great collective effort, because on the first day, they were there until the early hours of the morning, and at dawn on Sunday, at early hours they were already on their feet, again, engaged in the work of cleaning, food preparation, carrying their things, installing lights for the night, organizing the place where the motorbikes go, the place where the meat was going to be roasted, how the raffles were going to be given, in short, a whole community in full, fighting for the same purpose, to help someone in need.

On Sunday I enjoyed the food that was sold there, as well as the spirits, I participated in the raffles that were organised, and I was even able to enjoy the presentation of the country music groups. A fabulous experience that should be replicated in other communities.

Finally, I leave you with the words that my wife and I wrote on the closing night of the event, addressed to those who worked so hard on this event:
Good evening.
We wanted to write these words of thanks to all the inhabitants of the community of Guanía and other neighbouring villages. In particular to the members of all the commissions of the event, the organisers of the grape harvest in general. As soon as they heard about the accident of our mother, Petra, due to her health circumstances, they did not hesitate to take the necessary steps to find ways to generate the economic resources to help us in such a great need. As you know, the leg with the fracture is precisely where she has the varicose ulcer.
We are very sad to say the least, but we all know that the situation in our country does not allow us to have the resources for this type of emergency. From the bottom of our hearts we want to say to you: GOD PAY YOU, BE HEALTHY AND WELL-BEING AND PEACE IN THE LORD.
Because we know that, during these two weeks, you have worked with your excellent organisation, effort, discipline and constancy. With a lot of love you have each done your bit to help cover the expenses we have had with my mother.
You are doing it!
This time for our family, and it is not the first time they have done it; we also know that they have worked on this type of event to help other people in the neighbourhood, who have been in this type of need.
We are proud of the people of Guanía, they are setting a great example of solidarity for other villages in our land. Blessed is the work of each one of you, from the smallest to the biggest who collaborate.
We would like to take this opportunity to tell you that our mother was operated on Saturday the first of July and is now recovering well. She is very grateful to your people, because thanks to this collaboration, she can have quality of life by walking again.
As you know, we are in San Cristóbal, making sure that our mother is in better conditions for her proper recovery. A big hug to all our people of Guanía. God bless you. May the Holy Angels of each one of you be with you.
Thank you very much.
