When I was younger and less wise, I used to get involved in fights.
I remember how our door used to get nearly knocked down by belligerent parents standing with their puffy-eyed, split-lipped or bloody-nosed children, demanding for my mother to
warn me and beat some sense into me.
But I wasn't all successful in my fights though. Sometimes, I got beaten within inches of death and those who beat me were either,
Those I underestimated or
The seemingly quiet ones.
I'm an adult now and I don't fight but the majority of people who've dealt with me in just about anything - academics, games, competitions and in real life issues etc are in the same category above.
You've been misbehaving and that person has been keeping quiet? You think he's weak? You think he's blind? Or you mistake people's simplicity for stupidity?
You'd better have a re-think. They usually strike the hardest.
You're going for a competition and you think you've accurately sized your opponent up, belittling his abilities? Or you're so sure you'd get that job because you've got a 2'1 and others, a 3rd class?
You've got to think again.
My worst defeat since I began playing Scrabbles
My worst defeat since I began playing Scrabbles some weeks ago was dished out to me by a guy I'd grossly underestimated- a guy who couldn't string words together without blundering.
Never underestimate people. Never take quiet or quiet-faced people for granted.
This is another day to learn, unlearn and re-learn.
Peace✌️
