Having a support system is a blessing that we must all cherish. Sometimes, we may feel alone and question why no one is on our side, but there will always be someone who brings us momentary solace, someone who brings comfort and lessens the weight of our burdens. In this blog, I will share stories of the remarkable individuals who have been my rock, my guiding light, and my source of strength.
Meet Giselle, my lovable 'conyo baby.' I affectionately call her that because, despite her tough exterior, she reveals a softer side when we're alone. Among those who have supported me, Giselle stands out - she's seen me at my best and worst. With unwavering acceptance, she loves me for who I am, yet isn't afraid to point out my mistakes and gently guide me towards improvement. We've known each other for not long. Though we've been in the same class in eighth and tenth grade, we've only really had a conversation in our first year of senior year. She took up science and engineering while I took up the humanities. She's the one who first messaged me; I actually ignored her at first. Now, our connection with each other is getting stronger as we know each other deeper.
I met Lyka in seventh grade, and we've been inseparable friends since. Although we parted ways in senior year, fate brought us back together in the same program at the same school, both pursuing psychology. Our seven-year friendship continues to flourish. Whenever we're together, we share uncontrollable laughter for minutes on end. Lyka often teases me about my unexpected humor, and I jokingly reply that we simply share the same taste in comedy. She comforts me when I cry, stands up for me when I'm wronged, and never invalidates my emotions. She accepts me for who I am, past, present, and future. Her unwavering support means the world to me. Her kindness extends beyond words. She lends me money when I'm struggling, offers me rides home with her parents, and even buys me dinner when I'm in need. Her family's warmth and generosity have become a second home to me. I'm deeply grateful for Her unconditional love and friendship.
I met Elaiza in seventh grade, just like Lyka. We attended the same school from junior to senior year, but parted ways for college. Despite this, our friendship endured. In school, Elaiza was my constant lunch companion, especially since I had few friends. She's passionate about karate and animal welfare, particularly cats and dogs. Elaiza is also my seven-year best friend and confidante. Along with Lyka, we form an unbreakable trio, defying the notion that 'trio's don't work.' Our bond is a treasure we vow to cherish forever. Like Lyka, Elaiza has seen me at my worst and fiercely stands up for me when I'm wronged. Our friendship is built on a promise: to always be there for each other, no matter what, because in the end of the day, we want our friendship to stay.
They said that family the foundation of society, and I wholeheartedly agree. Family can either nurture or hinder us. I admit, my family dynamics aren't perfect - we have our differences, and some of us no longer speak. Yet, I hold onto hope that they'll realize how much they mean to me, despite our disagreements. My family's sacrifices have been countless, striving for a deserving life. Though happiness and peace elude us now, I wish for them to find genuine joy and serenity. Despite our strained relationships, I believe that in times of need, they'll be there for me, especially when it matters most.
