Unfortunately the British government has been involved in a scandal over dumping raw sewage into the rivers, water ways and oceans of the country. In 2020 more than 5000 individual dumpings by sewage treatment facilities occured. Sad to say as beautiful as some areas can be it's probably not safe to swim. Up until recently the Thames River had been declared biologically dead for many many years.
