Elimelech in a bid to escape the awful effects of famine moved out of Bethlehem to go to Moab with his whole family. It becomes really appalling when you understand that Bethlehem is a Hebrew word which is by interpretation can be rendered – “house of bread”. What he actually did, was to move out of the house of bread to Moab in search for bread.
Why leave the house of bread in search for bread? His experience afterward turned out to mean a serious miscalculation. Not only did he lose his life in Moab, his two sons died leaving Naomi his widow childless.
Many today tow the path of Elimelech: they leave their divinely appointed place of help and solution moving about seeking for help where there is no help. They end up compounding their problem and their situation becomes complicated. They carry the configuration of divine favor, but they go about like scavengers looking for help to pick here and there.
Elimelech is a Hebrew word meaning – “My Lord is King”. He was supposed to act out the meaning of his name by staying in Bethlehem holding unto God in spite of the false situation of the scarcity of bread that had come upon the land; trusting his God as King to bring about a turn around. However, he chose to exempt himself from the cover of God’s provisions.
Right in Moab; after the loss of her husband and two sons, Naomi received news that God had visited His people in giving them bread. Bread is a “native” of the house of bread. Anything that suggests that bread is not in the house of bread is false. Bread has no where going from the house of bread. There can’t be a better place for solution other than the place God has divinely positioned you.
If you must move an inch; it has to be by divine instruction. Don’t step out of the house of God to seek help outside. Don’t turn your back on God’s Word seeking other sources for help. If God cannot help you, no one can. Praise God! No matter what your situation is, there is help for you in God. Hang on there, help is on the way.
