I have put my trust in the Lord;
How do you say to my soul
What bird escapes to the mountain?
2 For behold, the wicked draw the bow,
They set their arrows on the rope,
To slay the upright in heart in secret.
3 If the foundations are destroyed,
What can the righteous do?
4 Jehovah is in his holy temple;
Jehovah has his throne in heaven;
His eyes see, his eyelids examine the sons of men.
5 Jehovah tests the righteous;
But the wicked and those who love violence, their soul abhors.
6 On the wicked he will rain calamities;
Fire, brimstone and scorching wind will be the portion of their chalice.
7 For the Lord is righteous and loves righteousness;
The righteous man will look at his face.
(RVR1960)
This psalm describes faith in divine justice where David experiences a series of adverse circumstances and although David would have liked to escape from all his difficulties, this is impossible because his enemies and adverse circumstances surround him. This really was a test of the patience and faith of the righteous to contemplate the wicked committing injustice. The Lord waits to see who remains faithful to the paths of justice.
The description of this psalm has great relevance today for humanity which describes a message of reflection for Christians for all who believe in the goodness of God in the land of the living.
God has rewards for people who keep his word because obviously David shows in this psalm the mercy of God which arose at a time when David was suffering all the weight of persecution and problems by ungodly people who were afflicting his heart but he He knew that God is not pleased with an ungodly and unfaithful world that only seeks to satisfy the desires of his heart.
Pride and evil is present in every age and David was forced to flee to save his life on several occasions because being the anointed king of God did not make him immune to injustice and hatred from others, also today we are exposed to this same feeling but we must know that God is in control of all things and just as David knew that God had the reins, so we today in the face of so much injustice must have faith and trust in the justice of God.
Sometimes our faith is weakened, just as David's faith contrasted dramatically with the fear of his counselors. But he was filled with courage and hope which strengthened him and helped him resist fear. David was confident and optimistic because he knew that God was greater than anything his enemies could take against him.
Today is the opportunity for you to see God as He really is and leave your fears behind. God is greater than any situation you may be going through, the Lord is just and loves justice.
When you feel like running away, run to God. He will restore justice and goodness to the earth in his time. God does not prevent believers from having difficult circumstances, but tests both the righteous and the wicked. For some, God's trials become like refining fire, while for others, they become an incinerator for destruction.
Don't ignore the tests and challenges that come your way through life. Use them as opportunities to grow.
