Joseph meaning he will add, the eleventh son of Jacob is an example of successful people whose success was not built upon their parents. He made it and became great with only God in attendance. His success was also unprecedented because it was in a foreign land. Joseph was an epitome of beauty, prosperity and wisdom (Gen 39 vs 2 to 6, Gen 41 vs 33 -39) people wanted his type of prosperity but can you pay the price?. Joseph knew Hod and was able to walk with Him. He trusted God even though his experiences were not palatable. He didn't back from doing what was right and St the end, he reaped the reward. Heb 10 vs 38
Joseph experiences and lessons for us
- Joseph was both loved and hated, Gen 37 vs 3,4. He was loved by his fatherbut hated by his brothers. This led to different experiences for him. The choices you make now will affect the children coming after you. Gen 37 vs 17 - 20.
Lessons
- Being loved should not cause us to be arrogant
- Others hatred towards us should not develop a bitter spirit in us. Parents should be careful with their choices for their children.
- Joseph had to endure unpleasant circumstances. Gen 37 vs 23-28
- Murmuring and complaining are not solutions to negative experiences, you have no reason to fail
- Don't be bitter towards people
- When the going gets tough, only the tough gets going.
- He put God first. He was wealthy in the spirit but the physical and material wealth didn't appear until years later. Heb 11 vs 26
- Blessing of God and prosperity has a process. If you reject the process, you loose the reward Gal 6 vs 8 - 9
Joseph maintained his purity Gen 39 vs 7 - 14. though he has enough excuses to compromise. He was in a strange land , his parents were not there, it seemed God had forgotten him, he was a slave, he was hated by his brothers. - Life is what you make of it. Don't give in to pressures
- Don't compromise godly standands. They are always rewarded
- It is better to offend man and please God. God is a better defender stand where God can defend you.
Joseph was able to see the big picture. Gen 45 vs 5 - 8. This means God and his purpose. Always see the hand of God in everything. Look beyond your circumstances. Jer 29 vs 11, - The carnal man sees only with his eyes. Walk in the spirit
- God is always behind the scene
Joseph was willing to forgive those who sinned against him. Gonna 20 vs 17,19 you don't have an excuse for unforgiveness. Joseph is your witness - Joseph showed tremendous faith in what God said. He was a man of faith. Heb 11 vs 22.
- Joseph faith was what kept him going.
Joseph strength
- Skill of dream interpretation. What do you have? Develop it, Don't be little it.
- Trust in God.
- Ability to flee. 1 cor 6 vs 18
