N/B This definition only tries to do justice, but mercy is beyond!
"There I will meet with you, from above the mercy seat..." Exo 25:22.
Why must it be above the mercy seat. Why not another station!
Such that the high priest will sprinkle the blood of atonement upon the mercy seat, a typology of what Christ did( Lev 16:14, Heb 9:23).
Mercy covers for the frailty of man. God is always found in the route of mercy!
This is not a license to Lasciviousness or irresponsibility!
The psalm understood this, you will hear him pray "Your mercy is everlasting, oh God"...
Psalm 33:22 Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.
Blessed is a man whom God's mercy is upon. Mercy is a compendium of many things:
Forgiveness
Favour
Undeserving love
God's help
It is like Christ stepping in, overriding your weaknesses, frailty, incompetence, unreadiness and saying " This is solely on me."
Psalm 94:18 When I said, My foot slipped; thy mercy, O Lord, held me up.
Mercy is like the insurance for failed strength. The mercy of God is more of a personality; Christ Himself.
I know you have prayed and tarried, yet no result, but have you tried the prayer of mercy; for you will always find Christ there!
A broken and contrite heart, will I not overlook.
Mercy is not just about forgiveness of sin. It is about doing in the strength of Christ.
Try mercy! Pray mercy!
The psalmist knew so much about mercy that He boldly exclaimed "SURELY, GOODNESS AND MERCY SHALL FOLLOW ME" Psalm 23:6.
