COLOSSIANS 2:6-7
And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to live in obedience to him.
Let your roots grow down into him and draw up nourishment from him, so you will grow in faith, strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with thanksgiving for all he has done.
Paul is encouraging us to not just begin our walk in Christ but also continue to grow in Christ. you see the Christ walk begin with salvation but we are called to grow, to continue growing in Christ
you know for some Christians it's like we accept Christ as our lord and savoir and I believe in him and then boom we stop there but then we need to understand that our salvation is the opening of a relationship with Christ and for us to continue to grow in him
HOW TO GROW OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
FIRMLY ROOTED: In chapter 7 let your root go down in him. OK let me take an example a plant growing OK you see when it is growing at that early stage you can go and take it off just with your bare hands but when it spreads out and the root grows deeper you see you can't uproot again with your hand so when the breeze blows the leaves moves but it is still standing strong cos it is deeply rooted so therefore as Christians we need to come to place where we will not be moved no matter what happens. we will be fully rooted in the word of God. you know when you see the tree, the taller it gets the deeper the root and it spreads more and that is what protects the root and it becomes the anker that keeps it from falling when storms comes. So as Christians we need to plant ourselves into God's word we need to be firmly rooted we need to grow in him. your root are soaked in him and his word is our nutrient and he will supply all we need.
BUILD YOUR LIFE IN HIM: Christ is the foundation and as we all know if the foundation of a building is not right then the house will be thrown off so Christ is our foundation and also remember a building can only go high as the foundation can support. so building our life in Christ we know he will support everything about our life
ESTABLISHED IN YOUR FAITH: still on verse 7 then your faith will grow. like we grow strong in the truth we were taught our faith gets bigger and the more we study Gods word the more our confidence grow. we establish our faith in him that we can go to bed and sleep and that everything is in control and even if he doesn't come thru we still have faith in him we still believe and keep growing in him. it says faith is the substances of things hope for the evidence of things not seen.
OVERFLOWING WITH THANKFULNESS: so now let me ask how grateful are you because some Christians don't know how to be thankful all they do is ask. But now this is the beauty of it oh I love this when you spend time with him and spend Time on his word you will start to see all his doing and you will have the attitude of gratefulness. see for me him paying for my sin with his life I'm forever grateful. we forget to see what he has for us because we set out mind for that big dream to be achieve.
But i want to challenge us tho today let us practice thankfulness. I mean that sincere gratitude from the heart. So as we grow in Christ so are we rooted deeply in him and we keep being grateful.
