I am happy to be here for the first time in this beautiful community to show you the great change we made to the garden after a long work in time but seeing the pictures I feel very peaceful and it was absolutely worth it. I must say that I was inspired to do this post when I saw @livinguktaiwan's posts about her garden but I must also confess that the idea of renovating it was my husband's since he is a gardening lover and we both decided that it would be great for our baby (who at that time was in my belly) to play there in the future, and now it's Olivia.
Como ven, nuestro jardín era un área para escombros, y por eso también gastamos más dinero, puesto que debíamos alquilar un contenedor para botarlos, lo cual fue un trabajo pesado para mí esposo ya que en ese entonces yo estaba embarazada y no podía cargar mucho peso, pero era una buena acompañante y hasta limonada preparaba para nosotros jajaja. También como ven había mucho monte que quitar y algunas de las rejas de madera estaban viejas por lo que debíamos hacer algo con ellas.
As you can see, our garden was an area for debris, and for that reason we also spent more money, since we had to rent a container to throw it away, which was a hard job for my husband since at that time I was pregnant and could not carry much weight, but he was a good companion and even prepared lemonade for us hahaha. Also as you can see there was a lot of brush to remove and some of the wooden fences were old so we had to do something with them.

Después de botar lo escombros y quitar todo el monte, empezábamos a pensar qué vamos a hacer y cómo, por lo que buscábamos muchas ideas en internet sobre jardines además de que visitamos varias veces la tienda para decidir qué comprar. Debo confesar que mi suegro también fue un gran ayudante y con su motosierra quitó el palo que estaba ahí justo en medio del jardín. Después de tener el área libre, decidimos poner una malla verde para cubrir las rejas, ya que a nosotros nos gusta bastante la privacidad, y sí, incluso en el jardín.
After throwing away the debris and removing all the brush, we started to think about what we were going to do and how, so we looked for many ideas on the internet about gardens and we visited the store several times to decide what to buy. I must confess that my father-in-law was also a great helper and with his chainsaw he removed the pole that was there right in the middle of the garden. After we had the area free, we decided to put a green mesh to cover the fences, since we like privacy, and yes, even in the garden.

Aunque la malla verde no nos convencía del todo además de que no cubría toda la altura de la reja, decidimos dejar así por un tiempo. Así que compramos algunas lindas flores y también allí trasplantamos algunos de los ajíes que mi esposo había puesto a germinar en casa. Por cierto, también limpiamos o aplanamos la tierra, y sembramos grama y pusimos abono y ahora debíamos regar de agua y esperar que esta empezara a crecer.
Although the green mesh did not convince us completely and it did not cover the entire height of the fence, we decided to leave it that way for a while. So we bought some nice flowers and also transplanted some of the chili peppers that my husband had germinated at home. Para el 14 de julio ya la grama estaba bastante grande y también habíamos comprado un par de arbolitos que mi esposo trasplantó en el jardín y claro ya se le empezaba a ver un mejor aspecto a esa área de escombros que teníamos en el jardín.

Luego hicimos una pausa porque empezó el frío, además en octubre ya saben lo que pasó que nos mantuvo muy ocupados (sí, eso, nació Olivia) y luego en noviembre empezó a caer la nieve, así que solo debíamos esperar que el frío invierno terminara para seguir trabajando en el jardín pero mientras tanto pensábamos en ideas hasta que volviera la primavera.
Then we took a break because the cold weather set in, plus in October you know what happened that kept us very busy (yes, that, Olivia was born) and then in November the snow started to fall, so we just had to wait for the cold winter to end to continue working in the garden but in the meantime we were thinking of ideas until spring came back.

Al comienzo de la primavera mi suegro montó una pequeña casa para guardar sus herramientas la cual le quedó muy bonita y como ven, muchas de las flores que teníamos murieron en el invierno por lo que decidimos poner otros arbolitos allí con astillas de madera o Kora.
At the beginning of spring my father-in-law put up a small house to store his tools which looked very nice and as you can see, many of the flowers we had died in the winter so we decided to put other saplings there with wood chips or Kora.

Luego a mi esposo se le ocurrió la idea de darle un toque más lindo al jardín así que elegimos y compramos unas rejas de madera y pintura y él empezó pintando todas estas, más tarde mi suegro nos ayudó a ajustarlas en el jardín (lo cual debo decir que fue muy rápido en esto) y a mí se me ocurrió la idea de poner unas luces de guirnaldas, y Olivia bueno, Olivia era una gran acompañante y supervisora también jajaja. También pusimos otras luces redondas abajo que le dan un toque genial al jardín y sembramos unos girasoles.
Then my husband came up with the idea to give a nicer touch to the garden so we chose and bought some wooden railings and paint and he started painting all these, later my father in law helped us to fit them in the garden (which I must say he was very fast at this) and I came up with the idea to put some garland lights, and Olivia well, Olivia was a great companion and supervisor too hahaha. We also put some other round lights downstairs which add a cool touch to the garden and planted some sunflowers.

Fue genial ver como iban creciendo los girasoles pero no pudimos comer las semillas puesto que los pájaros se las comieron todas jajaja pero estamos muy felices con el jardín, fue una renovación que tomó un año, mucha paciencia, trabajo y dinero pero que valió totalmente la pena y ahora tenemos un área donde Olivia puede hacer picnic e incluso aprender sobre jardinería como su papá si así le gusta. Pensamos además poner una mesa con sillas aquí para disfrutar en algunas tardes o noches de verano haciendo parrilla y tomando algo pero eso sera más tarde, aunque mi esposo hizo una banca con unas cosas viejas que tenía y le quedó genial. Por ahora estamos satisfechos con todo el trabajo que se hizo y muy felices. Y a ustedes que les pareció ese gran cambio que le hicimos al jardín?
It was great to see how the sunflowers were growing but we couldn't eat the seeds since the birds ate them all hahaha but we are very happy with the garden, it was a renovation that took a year, a lot of patience, work and money but it was totally worth it and now we have an area where Olivia can have picnics and even learn about gardening like her dad if she likes it. We are also thinking of putting a table and chairs here to enjoy some summer afternoons or evenings grilling and having a drink but that will be later, although my husband made a bench with some old things he had and it turned out great. For now we are satisfied with all the work that was done and very happy. And what do you think about the big change we made to the garden?
