At the beginning of this year I decided to undertake yet another 365 project. The past couple of years feel like I have had something missing and I've struggled to become interested in anything worthwhile. Mainly sat on the couch and watching crap TV. Time for a change and to go back to these photo a day projects which give me focus and something to aim for. I hope to create some worthwhile shots but they are a by product of the process which first and foremost give me so much joy and mental stability. I hope you enjoy 👊👊 A quick and dirty half an hour kitchen based faff a few nights ago. Macro PCB, digital stencil lens swap to 50mm, tripod swap, LP brushes filters and clamps galore. SOOK barring a 16:9 crop. I start by framing up the PCB favourably in terms of composition whilst noting where the dark space was placed. Here it is bang on in the centre of the upper left hand third of the frame. This is important for when I come to line up the second element. The figure with the sparks. I use the rule of thirds grid on my camera screen and a point of reference. Once happy I swap tripods and lenses to place the sparky figure. I expose this from my phone screen whilst blanking off the rest of the image. The above image is the base image and you can see where I have blanked off the outer portion of the image so it doesn't interfere with the PCB element. Once happy with the light position, intensity and pallet I proceed to put it all together into one frame. Here are a couple more shots you may have seen which use the same technique...
Lightpainting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source while taking a long exposure photograph, either to illuminate a subject or to shine a point of light directly at the camera, or by moving the camera itself during exposure. Nothing is added or removed in post processing.
