Discombobulation with a camera rotation device

in Lightpainters United4 years ago

More camera rotation photography where the camera rotates on it's lens axis.

For this shot, we visited a "secret" tunnel just off the Woodhead Pass in the Peak District discovered by @fadetoblack (Who knows how he finds these places!). I lined up the central silhouette and Tim here set off a huge chuff of vape smoke. I exposed for the centre part and replaced the lens cap without ending the exposure. I then panned the camera over 45 degrees to the right and rotated the camera to minus 45 degrees then removed the lens cap to expose and repeated the process a total of four times at 90 degree rotations. It might take some getting your head around how this was created but we did it in one take, non of that Photoshop funny business:

Another example using the same technique. The more observant viewer may notice I left my camera bag in the frame since I was using the ultrawide fisheye lens!

Five go mad in Padley! This was another visit to my 2nd home, Padley Gorge in Derbyshire, this time with a guest appearance by extreme orb wafter, Tom Hill, visiting all the way from "oop north" A cracking evening mixing different light painting styles and a reminder for me to wave lights more often!

Straight outta the kiln! Foul British weather forces light painters to take cover and this night's choice was the reliable Lime Kiln in Derbyshire, our "go to" location. Made with the help of Tim here posing and Leon changing the gels at the right moment while I faffed with the camera rotation device and arranged the light blades on a flash stand. Thanks chaps!

All of the above were shot in one photographic exposure and are not Photoshop creations!
