Being a lightpainting photographer, I find myself tuned in to finding new locations to shoot in the dark. Every scrap of information I can find about a new place to shoot gets Googled to death and eventually I find what I've been looking for. Tonight @inksurgeon and I found a new ace place to shoot!
Cadeby Tunnel was mentioned in passing by a YouTuber advertising an upcoming video. Usually these places are miles away from home meaning a lot of effort and expense to find the location. It turns out Cadeby Tunnel is probably only 15 miles from home!
We arrived at the address programmed in to the Satnav only to find there were two damned streets with the same name in Doncaster! Doh! Once we realised we were barking up the wrong tree, we swiftly made our way to the next street of the same name.
Then another problem occurred; we used Google to point to the tunnel entrance only to find we had perhaps got the wrong end! The cutting down to the tunnel entrance was just too slippy and dangerous and my days as a stunt man are long gone! The tunnel is only 165 yards long so we looked for the other end and eventually we struck lightpainting gold!
These are the first shots I got from the tunnel and I will be back sometime soon!
Cadeby Nights
To kick things off I couldn't help myself and did another kinetic stripe of light. With these shots, I fire the flashgun to light up the surroundings, then ask the model to turn on the flashlight while I simultaneously pan the camera across the frame. I stopped the pan before the edge of the frame which I quite liked.
Mortal Kombat
@inksurgeon doing his best Mortal Kombat pose with two lights instead of one:
A hint of red
A straightforward silhouette this time but during the long exposure, I waved a RGB LED across the frame from behind the camera. It only needs the briefest of waves to get this effect:
A hint of purple
It always amazes me what a difference to the outcome it can make just by changing the RGB LED colour:
The Not So Grand Entrance
I managed to grab a quick phone shot as we entered the inconspicuous looking tunnel. It was very muddy and slippy getting inside but once in it was bone dry:
About me:
I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.

Lightpainting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source while taking a long exposure photograph, either to illuminate a subject or to shine a point of light directly at the camera, or by moving the camera itself during exposure. Nothing is added or removed in post processing.

Nice tunnel and some cool light paintings. I found a nice tunnel too some time ago. Unfortunately it is 270 kilometres away.
270km!! I'd be horrified without tunnels to go to in the rain!
There is no rain in Germany. 😂
Wow! Amazing work!
Thanks @darthnava :-)
Awesome dude
