Epic Flail - lightpainting with smoke and a glamorous model - NSFW

in Lightpainters United4 years ago

Another post in preparation for a much anticipated urbex photoshoot in a couple of weeks, I thought it was about time I revisited some of my old stuff to see what worked and what didn't. (And there is a lot that didn't!). This is a set where I got a chance to work with Neena in an abandoned farm.

I brought along a tub of smoke pellets designed for use by plumbers to test flues. They don't smell very nice and can get a little hot if hand held so I was quite pleased Neena was game and held on to them while lit!

I got several favourites on the day but this one made me punch the air after the click:

Here I used a black card over the flashgun to split the light with two different coloured gels:

Here I asked Neena to look elegant and again I split the light on the rear flashgun:

And finally, this wall behind Neena was made from vertically placed railway sleepers with gaps in between. There was a little breeze going on and I realised that if I set off a couple of smoke pellets behind the sleepers, the smoke would emanate through the cracks. I placed a flashgun on the other side of the sleepers to light the smoke and the whole damn thing worked out first time. I would have done more shots like this but I ran out of smoke!!

About me:
I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.
