Lightpainting a fractal flux capacitor

in Lightpainters United3 years ago

It feels like it's been an eon since I last picked up a camera. I started a new job as a project engineer and I've been surprised how busy it's been. Once I find my feet, I should hopefully be back posting and getting out more with the camera!

On one slightly breezy Friday night, @neilru75 and I ventured out with the aim of lightpainting in a local tunnel. After the first one we arrived at was a bust (someone had placed a fence in the way) we came up with a Plan B at an old railway personnel tunnel.

Friday Fractal Flux Capacitor

I managed to acquire a fractal filter with the correct thread size to fit on to my Sony 24-105 lens. The aim was to combine zoom pulling techniques with the fractal filter but I much preferred this result with no zoom.

For this shot, I lined up Neil and fired a rear mounted strobe to light the walls in red. I then lightpainted the pattern behind Neil knowing that the filter would scatter the light in a slightly unpredictable way. Next I defocussed the lens and used a Ball of Light tool spinning it either side of the tunnel.

All shot in one photographix exposure as usual.

Zoom Pulling

I initially dismissed this shot as a bust but getting it back on the computer, I kinda liked it!

This is a simple zoom pull where I start the exposure with a longer focal length and then zoom out to wide.

Fractal Laser Beams

This was just a test shot to see the effect of the lasers through a fractal filter. It's always a surprise to me when the test shots come out looking probably better than the shot I'm aiming for!

About me:
I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.

WHAT IS LIGHTPAINTING?

Lightpainting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source while taking a long exposure photograph, either to illuminate a subject or to shine a point of light directly at the camera, or by moving the camera itself during exposure. Nothing is added or removed in post processing.

The 3rd one is super cool ...
I know this awesome feeling when you just want to try something quick and its super cool and one gets fixated on it .. like my last post with the bowls from fundamentals.berlin

Thanks pal, this was more of a 'getting back on the horse' session...

Great shots. Reminds me to clean my fractals and test the new ones.

Laser beams and fractal filters are now my current obsession lol

I like the second pic most.

Thanks Marla, I think I could get a cleaner result next time 😀

Love that 2nd one with the lasers 👌🏻❗️
