Last night we made the effort to drive 78 miles to a remote location in the Yorkshire Dales known as Coldstones Cut. The Cut is a man made structure created by the artist Andrew Sabin. It's a massive construction made from granite which visitors can freely walk through and explore, the sculpture overlooks the huge working Coldstones Quarry and offers spectacular views over the scenery of Nidderdale in the Yorkshire Dales.
One night in The Cut
Here I placed two blue gelled Godox flashguns in the frame out of view and a BLF Q8 5000 lumen flashlight behind the model. These kinds of shots are easy when you have the right gear and I remember thinking last night how much easier this image was to make since my last trip to the Cut.
Coldstones in the blue hour
We arrived as the light was getting warmer and by the time we'd climbed to the top of the hill it was blue hour. This was a quick shot to get "warmed up"
Kinetic Coldstones
And finally, this was a version of the first image where I deliberately panned the camera upwards slowly while light behind the model was still on so as to leave a kinetic light trail filling in the dark spaces. I don't see many others doing kinetic panning like this and not really sure why....
All shot in one photographic exposure, these images are not Photoshop creations!
About me:
I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.
