KIEV, Oct. 18 - A power plant in Kiev was hit by three Russian attacks.
This was reported by the Ukrainian presidency office.
"According to the first information, a power plant on the left bank of Kiev has been hit three times," the deputy head of the Ukrainian president's office, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, wrote on social media.The power plant is located in the Desnyansky district: this was reported by the mayor of the capital, Vitaliy Klitschko, cited by Ukrinform. According to a reporter from the same agency, explosions were heard throughout Kiev this morning, while dense columns of smoke are visible above the affected power plant. Power is out in several parts of the city.
But several Ukrainian energy infrastructures have suffered a "massive" missile attack by Russian forces this morning, writes Ukrainian journalist Maria Avdeeva, quoted by the Guardian.
Avdeeva points out that in addition to a power plant in the capital, infrastructure was hit in Dnipro (south)-where the journalist speaks of "serious damage"-and Zhytomyr, a town west of Kiev.
For his part, the mayor of Zhytomyr - Serhii Sukhomlyn - disclosed that water and electricity are missing in the city. Sukhomlyn, reports the Kyiv Independent, said a power plant in the city suffered two attacks this morning. There is no information at this time on the extent of the damage or any casualties.
