Hello rally fans :)!
Rallying is full of legendary moments that are never forgotten, some for their brilliance, others for their misfortune. One of the most unforgettable incidents in WRC history happened ten years ago on this day, during Rally Mexico 2015, when Ott Tänak and his codriver Raigo Mõlder saw their Ford Fiesta RS WRC disappear beneath the surface of a lake.
The moment was shocking!!! Mid stage, Tänak lost control of the car on a really fast section, sending the car off the road and straight into the water... Within seconds, the Fiesta was almost fully submerged, leaving only the roof visible. Tänak and Mõlder thankfully managed to escape unharmed, but the car? It seemed destined to be written off😔💔.
Rally fans will remember his hardcore crashes along with this one, there’s a few that also stands out, Monte Carlo 2020, Rally Japan (when another car crashed onto them), Estoni etc.. he has a lot of experience 😖
But this is rallying, this is why rally is so special; where mechanics are just as relentless as the driver and codriver. After an incredible recovery effort, M-Sport’s team managed to get the car out of the lake, drain the water, and get to work :). Against all odds, they rebuilt the Fiesta overnight, drying the engine, replacing electrical components, and making it ready for flat outs again. Tänak managed to rejoin the rally the next day, proving both his determination and the incredible strength of modern rally cars. But above all, proving the power and knowledge mechanics have :)!!!

Now, a decade later, Tänak is a WRC champion, and his career has only continued to rise. But no matter how many wins or titles he‘ll have, there will always be that one moment in Mexico when his rally car turned into a submarine and came back to fight another day. Such an incredible sport, incredible team, fantastic performance and above all THE MOST AMAZING MECHANICS!!!!
