Saving a million lives...TDP #22

Pleasant greetings to you all!

Having money, I mean lots of it is good. Having money gifted to you is also very good as there won't be restrictions on how you spend it unlike the money you worked hard for, hehe. I bet we might have experienced this feeling one way or the other. The feeling of spending money that you didn't work a cent for.

But what if, a money gift was given and instead of the unrestictions, a restriction was placed on the amount of money received. I'm talking to the last cent of it. How would you feel? Bummer right? But what if it was for a good cause? Well that would get a yay! out of my lips for sure.

A million dollars, a million lives saved

If I had a million dollars but had to spend every bit of it on a charitable cause, I would strive to uphold the trust invested in me to manage such an amount of money and I would start by splitting it into three parts for the following establishments...

Firstly, I would establish an empowerment center for the ”girl child”, a place where they can come to learn skills, receive quality education and still receive scholarship awards to their preferred tertiary institution. This is so important to me because I have seen a lot of female children being neglected by their parents. These parents value male children and so they go all out to sponsor the educational welfare of their male children but leave the females to fate.

Daily, I see young girls hawk food stuffs on the streets and beside the expressway just to get money for their family. Things like this really breaks my heart but what can I do when my own resources are limited. So having this money would help many female children to becoming empowered.

Secondly, the second part of the money would be used for poverty alleviation programs, where grants can be given to the less privileged to help them survive and sustain themselves for free. In order to avoid greedy scammers, there would be thorough investigation of whoever registers for the grant before it is approved and only those who truly need the financial assistance would get it. I would also set up a six months monitoring team to ensure that the money is used for the purposes it was given. A popular saying goes thus..

”Give a man a fish and he would come asking again when he is hungry but teach a man to fish and he won't go hungry again”.

That's the principle behind the Poverty alleviation program.

The last part of the money would be donated to a special needs home. This is not like an orphanage but it is for children with special needs and disabilities. I would use some of the money to get them essential materials like mattresses, diapers, beverages, bedsheets, clothes and other household necessities and I would sign off the remaining to the people in charge to aid them in getting foodstuffs and further running of the home.

Some months ago, I wrote a post on a particular trip I made to a special needs home within my city. I saw kids with down syndrome, epilepsy, autism and cerebral palsy, all being taken care of at the home. I was moved with compassion for the kids and more for their caregivers because it's no small task caring for those kids. I also obseved that they need all the love and support they can get. So doing this would surely put a smile on their faces and help reassure the caregivers that there are still people who are humane on Earth.

All these I would do for free and to ensure that no corruption is involved, I would create a team that I would be accountable to. They would also serve as a corporate body overseeing the charity projects and making sure that there is equal dispensation of resources to the right persons.

Thank you all for reading..Shalom
