Most of the great things ever done started from a simple idea that was well nurtured. But also a lot of other great things could have been done if the ideas were not lost. We see wonderfully written posts on the hive and say wow! Who is that author? I must get to know and befriend him/her. Or a great movie that kept us at the edge of our sit which made us beg for more. A best-selling book or the best kind of the greatest technology ever invented.
Sometimes when we might think we lack an idea of what to write, but in reality we don't. What we lack is how to grab them as soon as they arrive.
Have I ever been in the bathroom and while I spend time soaking myself under the shower or just immediately stepping my leg in, an idea of something I have been trying to figure out pumps into my head out of nowhere? Yes, this happens many times. At times it can be in the kitchen or when I'm just taking the fresh air outside.
This is one reason I have one of my jotters very close by a lot of the time when I don't want to use my phone notepad. So that whenever thoughts came out of the blue, I could write them down before they disappear into the tin air.
Ideas are like this, and in the process of welcoming and entertaining them like a visitor great ideas are sometimes born.
They come naturally, don't let it slip through your mind or ignore it. Let it just flow like a river. Feel it, accept it, entertain it, nurture it by writing it down as soon as possible and more will keep coming back.
There are times we thought, oh, I will get back at this later, and when that later comes the idea might be gone. Human memory is fickle. Distractions are all around us and for this reason, so many great ideas are lost forever.
What to do to keep your great ideas alive?
"Be in the moment" and be ready to just let it flow as it comes. It is a natural process. We all have it in us and when we allow ourselves to be present only can it manifest.
"Try to write them down now than later" A written-down idea is halfway actualized. Always have writing materials at your beck and call, so that when an idea strikes, you write it down as soon as possible. Because most times when you don't, it might not only get lost forever but subsequent one might stop coming.
Imagine yourself as a visitor that keeps on visiting this particular person and each time he acts like you are not there. I bet with time you will stop visiting no matter how much you love to. Sometimes, our Ideas are exactly like that.
These are some simple ways I keep my ideas alive and I hope you can relate or find it helpful. Keep a written note of your ideas and who knows the next big thing might come from it. And next time you are in the bathroom, keep your mind open because your greatest ideas might happen while you are there.
