This is just to serve as a warning to everyone out there. Now, we all know that traditional social media can be absolutely disgusting. BUT that does not mean that Hive is to be trusted either...We are encouraged to interact, but seriously there are sick freaks everywhere.
My Story
So ages ago I started speaking to a user on here, they seemed okay enough, a nice old guy who was reasonably well known in a certain community and upped my engagement numbers. Seemed totally normal and fine. After a while they found me on Facebook, which I deleted a while ago. I never engaged too much on there because Facebook bores me really. I had not spoken to this user on here or there for a long time. It happens right? Not like I was close to this person after all.
Either way, recently they somehow managed to target the one person I am still close to. The scary thing is this creepy old **** should not have been able to obtain the contact details for the person they contacted, not without some serious obsessive stalking.
It gets worse, even though I had never given them any cause to think any of this, they claimed that they had been in some sort of online relationship with me and sent screenshots from on here with any joke or anything that in their fucked up little mind confirmed (to them at least) whatever delusional fantasy they had come up with.
So EVERYONE BE WARNED!!
- BE VERY CAREFUL WHO YOU INTERACT WITH.
- TRUST NO ONE EVER
- DO NOT LET ANYONE SEND YOU ANYTHING THAT WILL GIVE THEM ACCESS TO YOUR MAIL OR ANYTHING
- ANYTHING CAN BE TWISTED AND USED AGAINST YOU, SPEAK VERY LITTLE AND DO NOT BE TOO FRIENDLY
These are my suggestions. These people can and will do worse than what has happened to me. Don't be stupid. Be very careful out there and on here because you never know. A 'friend' is just an enemy waiting to happen.
Okay, rant over.
Till next time.

This is very sad to hear.
A learning experience at least
I'm really sorry - you're one of the good guys and don't deserve this.
I might be an old guy, but I like to think I'm not creepy, and I'm certainly not that guy.
It's sad that we all have to be careful with anything we do online. Out of habit I don't use my real name on Hive, never use real data for things like birthdays, and don't give out anything that could provide a location closer than the large town I'm in (including making sure photos around the hose don't show enough landmarks to geolocate by). At least with Hive the properties in images are scrubbed off to eliminate location data etc.
All I can say is that while there are some awful people out there, the majority aren't. Be careful, but don't let it break you.
All very good advice thank you. It is always best to be safe and careful with these things.
I have blocked that user at least.
