THE PAST 5 YEARS

Beginning from the year 2020, my life was almost around a standstill, but I was working hard to get into the university back then but it just felt like I was doing the same thing over and over. I remember I put in extra effort than usual because I wasn’t a fan of asking for help just to pass an exam because if I need help at that level then I might need a lot more in the university too. It was hard, life was hard for me then but there was one thing that kept me going, a quote from the Bible that says “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me”.

Well, I know I wrote a major exam in 2020 and I was really lucky my results were good. I wanted to apply that year to a university but unfortunately for me, most schools went into strike and I lost track of my application and I didn’t apply. I applied in 2021 and I almost had a similar experience. That made me lose hope at some point but luckily for me, I was surrounded by people that want the best for me. It was that year my sister told me about Hive. I was skeptical about joining Hive then because I didn’t think I could write and that was how I extended things until the last month of 2021 when I finally opened my Hive account.

At this point, things started getting better. I started challenging myself more because I felt I wasn’t worthy of being on hive so I needed to prove myself worthy. I dedicated my time to exploring, learning and asking questions on how things work on hive. All these things happened in 2022. I finally figured out a few ways on how to become a better writer, and contribute more to the hive blockchain, particularly the various community I subscribed to. It was totally worth the time and effort because today I look back and I see how far I have come on Hive and even in my life outside hive.

Before the end of 2022, I also finished a predegree program and thanks to hive and some of the amazing people I have connected with, despite how hard things were for me, I was lucky enough to use that certificate to get into the university in 2024. The whole of 2023 was just there, another year when I felt like I wasn’t doing the right thing and all. I wasn’t achieving as much as I wanted to and I felt numb. It was particularly because my admission was still not certain at that point and it was quite devastating. It was January, I was so happy that Sunday evening when I checked my JAMB CAPS and realized I have been given admission into the university of Benin, Nigeria, to study Physiology.

Things weren’t so good for my dad at that time but thanks to Hive, I had a hope of surviving somehow. In 2024, after getting the admission I have been praying for, I got to a point when I felt like forfeiting my admission because I became tired and overwhelmed by everything. Just like always, I felt like giving up but then, I couldn’t. I saw a reason to keep going again and I survived my first year in school. It was all thanks to God for the amazing support I got from people both far and near. Their words, prayers, encouragement and financial support went a long way toward making this possible.

Now I’m in my second year in 2025, and I’m having this same feeling but this time, I’m more determined to not give up even without anyone encouraging me. I know nothing good comes easy and for that reason, I believe that as long as I’m putting in effort into the things I have to do, then it will be fine. The things I did for the past 5 years to make each day count was constantly reminding myself that my life was a phase. Nothing was permanent, it will still pass. That thought kept me going, and here I am still going strong.

It’s so easy to feel stuck when life keeps throwing delays and disappointments, but the fact that you kept showing up, even when you didn’t feel strong is one of the beauty in the journey.

I also love how Hive came to be a part of your journey. I have no doubt you’ll keep thriving.

It’s my pleasure being a part of it. ❤️

Your journey is truly inspiring. Despite so many challenges, you never gave up. Your faith, hard work, and the support from Hive and loved ones helped you push through. It’s beautiful how you kept going even when things felt impossible. Wishing you even more strength and success ahead!

Thank you so much! I’m glad you find my journey inspiring. 🌹

The thought of gaining admission into Uniben without any external help should be enough motivation that you are meant for greatness. If this helps, always think about your achievements because no matter how little, it's a win for that's the best source of motivation. Dear Hope, you are doing well and I'm super proud of you 💖🌹❤️🥂

Aww, thank you so much, mama. 🥰
