I Can See Clearly Now!

Self realization is a funny thing. One moment you have the strongest of resolves and opinions and resolutions towards something, the next minute, there’s a dawn of realization. Something sparks in you and the missing piece to why you ever felt that way becomes as clear in your eyes as day. You see better, you think better, you realize the errors you made. But most of all, you feel better. And lighter too.

You see, I’ve had a few of these life changing moments before but then nothing was as clear to me as the one I felt a couple of hours ago. It’s one of the reasons I love talking it out. One of the reasons I’m a big fan of self-therapy. I was talking to my close friend once and I was telling him what felt like something amusing to me of how different I was. I talked about the fact that most times, when I shared my problems with someone, it’s not just because I want to hear what they think, but also because I want to hear how I think.

I want to hear how I sound when I say my problems. So what usually happens is that I’ll tell my people what I’m going through, even as I listen to what they say, I launch into a whole, “Because you know, the truth is that....” And as I speak, listen to myself, words from my subconscious flow through my mouth, and as I say it, I realize just how right that sounds. And in that moment, I’ve found my solution. I’ve cleansed my thoughts and now have a better understanding of why I was feeling that way and what I should do from then on.

So back to what happened two hours ago. I’d been going through a really rough day. It had happened since morning, from one occurrence to the next, and then the final set of things happened and I just broke down from the sheer exhaustion of it all. Texted my best friend about it and turns out she was going through a very rough day as well. And so we began to talk. Talking through everything, all our thoughts, what led to where we are now, step by step.

And then suddenly, it dawned on me. And I’ll tell you something guys, it was the most beautiful thing I’d felt in the last few months. The liberation was out of this world and it’s like scales collectively fell from our eyes. It was beautiful for us because while doing this self-therapy, we talked, chided ourselves, realized our wrongs, cleaned our eyes and planned the way forward.

I’m a big advocate of self-therapy because I also believe in that saying that the best advice is the one you give yourself. Self-therapy is walking through all the processes that led you to that singular moment of enlightenment and awareness. I felt lighter. I felt better. And it was so uncanny that in that moment, one of my Dad’s favourite Jimmy Cliff songs, “I can see clearly now,” came to mind and I started laughing. Long and hard. That kind of laughter where it dawns on you that you’re now well and truly free.

It all felt just right because then I remembered the Thoughtful Daily post initiative of this week that asked:

In what ways have you strived to spread thoughtfulness? Whether in your own lives... or when interacting with others? Was your focus attuned to concentrating on empowering positive life stories? Did it create a sense of encouragement, in yourself, or others? Let your readers know about this story of your life!

And then I thought to myself, how have I done this for me? When I saw the prompt initially, I had known what to say in relation to my dealings with other people but now I’m going to speak for myself and say that the way I spread thoughtfulness in relation to me is that I try not to block out my conscience. I’m not always in tune with it but I do know how to take charge and scold myself when I know I’m wrong. Talk to myself to treat me better so I can do the same for others.

In the last two hours there has been a complete shift in my mindset and perspective of certain things and I’m so grateful because this is exactly what I needed. I needed to be face to face with these issues and then talk to myself about everything I felt. And it felt so right doing this? Because the road, hereon, already feels a lot clearer and free of clutter. The way my heart is right now.

Message to myself, and maybe every other person, “Don’t lose focus of what really matters. Don’t let your emotions get so intense that your judgement clouds as well. And most of all, know when it’s time to sit yourself down and have a little me-talk.” Self-therapy is beautiful. Talking about it with people who will understand and get you is just as powerful. Love and light to all of us. Let’s never forget to think from the other point of view.

This process called life, is a perennial rebirth and remake, we transit flowing trying and seeking our accommodation, that which makes us feel good and highlight the reason for our existential journey. It is wise that in the process we purify and release what does not correspond, to concentrate the essence and at the same time give space to what is to come. Most people let their emotions get the best of them in some situations which can lead to more and more troubles for you.

Sometimes you just need to sit back and let things play out because that’s just life. Life isn’t meant to difficult and so it’s best to go easy on yourself.

I’ve also had a my bad days and these days people are just trying me. But I just sit back and laugh cos none of them gives me money.😂🤝
