Scorching Realities - Understanding Heatwave Hardships

in ThoughtfulDailyPost7 months ago (edited)

The ongoing heatwave in Bangladesh, particularly in Dhaka, has been a significant challenge for normal people and a burden to the poor. The high temperatures often exceeds 40 degrees Celsius (104 degree farenheit). And when combined with high humidity, pose a dangerous threat to human health. The heatwave has not only affected the educational sector but also the health and well-being of the population. Which can often lead to heat exhaustion, dehydration, and even heat stroke! The health ministry has issued guidelines to help people cope with the heat. The government's decision to close schools was a response to the extreme conditions. So, the government closed all the school, and colleges for one week.

So, we somehow managed to spend our last week attending online classes from home. But as many students don't properly attend online classes or don't take them seriously, my college authorities did not like it, and they eventually started offline classes again starting today. So, it was a day really not good at all.

Nobody likes to go to the college in this amount of temperature sweating and being sandwitched in a public bus. Because most of the time, we don't get seats in the bus. We usually have to stay standing the whole way to the college. Because there are not enough vehicles compared to the demand. It was a really busy day as I had 3 tests in the same day after this long Eid vacation. Also, no air conditioner in our college. I tried my best to write answers as much good as possible with my sweaty hands. Now the rest depends on luck.

Now on my way home, when I was coming back from college, I saw someone. I saw a homeless man laying on a mat in the scorching heat without any thing to cool down, with no fan or any other kinds of electronics that can give them some kind of air in this inhuman excessive heat conditions. A dog was also sleeping beside him. It looked like he was sleeping peacefully despite the extreme conditions. It was moment that made me realize how we often take our comforts for granted. I felt guilty about my own complaints about the heat. I complained about the discomfort of crowded buses and sweltering classrooms, and this man faced the harsh reality of homelessness.

And here, the homeless man was sleeping untroubled by the sad reality of his situation. It was a moment that made me appreciate the simple things in life, like the comfort of a cool room and the ability to rest without worry. The mans peaceful sleep made me question my own priorities in my life. It was a moment that made me realize that when we may have our own struggles, there are always others who are facing more difficult circumstances.

As I continued my journey home, the image of the homeless man stayed in my mind. This incident of the the homeless man on the overbridge showed the sadness of the most poor in the society, how helpless they are in the face of climate change. It highlighted the disparity between the struggles of the poor and middle class, one can afford air conditioning and fans, and the homeless, who have no such resources. So, lets not just feel the heat, but lets be like a breeze of change in the lives of others.

lets be like a breeze of change in the lives of others.

i love this line. let us be breezes of change in our small corners of the earth for now.

thank you, and yes, everyone should try their best and be like a breeze of change.

Heatwave is making us all crazy in this season. I never imagined this much hot weather I can barely stand outside without an umbrella otherwise I might have heat stroke.

yes, and everyday its just keep getting worse. Hope that it will pass soon.

Sometimes we don't appreciate what we have until we see someone less unfortunate. I hope the homeless man receives help... my heart goes out to him.

I completely agree with you. And hope he gets support.
