I'm still at work and about to call it a day at past 9 in the evening. Nothing new actually except for the last 3 days I've been feeling extremely full to the brim, juggling life and work and all other responsibilities that I somehow ended up doing because people think "I'm great". It's funny to think how I ended up serving as an officer in two non-profit organizations outside of my work. As I recall, it all started with me doing great in my job in the office, then the next thing I know higher-ups recommended me to represent our company in a non-profit organization. I've always been passionate about whatever task is given to me with or without pay as long as it's for the greater good. Now wearing that passion and drive brought me here tonight, scribbling a few words before I retire to sleep.
Just recently I've been appointed as president of a local club with an international network. It has been less than 2 years since I joined this club out of my own will and now, I'm president. How's that possible? There are other members of the club that could take the coveted role, but why me? I kept asking myself why before dauntlessly accepting the role. Then again, I wear my passion and drive as if they're my last piece of clothing every single day. You've prepared yourself for it! I told myself as I accepted the appointment. With great work comes more responsibilities and more chances to grow. Well, I've devoted my days to lifelong learning. I guess the universe is only giving me what I asked for.
Earlier as I was browsing through Youtube, I've seen the winning piece of Dananjaya Hettiarachchi entitled "I See Something!". I needed to see his speech before an important event I had to take over tonight. His speech was nothing short of fun and entertaining but at its core is a subtle reminder of the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people. The people who will push you to do more. People who will relentlessly support you in whatever endeavor you take and people who will remind you that you are capable of doing more than what you think you can do. To be honest, it's difficult to find a community wherein everyone's growth and wins are celebrated. In the Philippines, crab mentalitality is prevalent. It's like breakfast, lunch, and dinner for some; hopefully, not too many people enjoy eating this dish. That's why if you belong to a community that empowers you, you're considered lucky. You are in the right place. Stay there and expand your horizons. You'll know you're in the right place when you're growing and people around you grow too.
While this may be too much to take in now for me, calling it a day and taking a good night's rest is all it'll take to prepare myself for the promising days ahead.
