You are 80 years old, do you give your sight away to this new human who needs it, or keep it?
This is a tough question, no doubt. Even if it's imaginary, thinking about it is making me uncomfortable. Not because I have to give away my sight but mostly because there's no right and wrong, there's no middle ground.
I decided to answer honestly because that will keep my perspective clear, to me at least...
I'm in my 40s now, I have lived long and if I live a healthy & happy life, I would feel fulfilled, I believe.
But eyesight is something that there's no exchange for it. I have seen a clip on social media where the street interviewer asks the standard people if they would take a million and wake up blind the next day. And no one, absolutely zero people agree on exchanging anything with their eyesight.
- I would probably give it to my grandchildren or my children but not any stronger. It may sound selfish to many but I feel this way. My family's life is more valuable to me. I would help any strangers without any doubt. But giving away my eyesight to a newborn, whom I don't know; I would probably not choose that.
- allowing others to live a happy life sounds amazing. I know, we all would do that. But when it comes to compromising my own life, even if I'm in my 80s, I would probably not choose that. Because, what if I had been left alone, had to face many health issues, what if there would be no one to take care of me, these would be my main concerns.
I don't have the big heart to make that sacrifice. But I'm thinking this while standing on a very different stage of life. This may change when I'm older, situations can be different, and so can my mind. Who knows?
If the question would be if I would give away my eye to any human after I die. I would have no doubt and say yes.
This question is very thought provoking. There might be an easy answer for many, but I'm struggling to think otherwise. I'm excited to read others' answers.
