All my life, I haven’t had a “special” someone to celebrate Valentine’s Day with. While others exchanged love letters and chocolates with their significant others, Valentine’s Day, for me, was about showing the people around me that they were loved. I remember back in high school, carefully making heart-shaped cards and crafting white roses for my girlfriends—not because I had to, but because I wanted them to know that love isn’t just something that comes from a boy. Love is in friendship, in sisterhood, in the little gestures that say, “You matter.”
And here I am, years later, still without that “special someone,” but learning and understanding love in new and beautiful ways. Love isn’t just candlelit dinners or handwritten love notes—it’s in the friend who stays up late to talk, the sibling who always saves you a seat, the moments of kindness that remind us we are never truly alone.
Love is everywhere, not just in roses and grand gestures. It’s in the morning text that says, “Hey, just thinking about you,” the friend who listens when you need to vent, or the family member who always makes sure you get home safe. Love is patient, kind, and selfless—it’s about showing up, forgiving, and being there, even when no one is watching.
For those in relationships, Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate romance. But for the rest of us, it can be about something just as meaningful—cherishing the love that already surrounds us. The Bible says love is patient and kind (1 Corinthians 13:4), and I’ve come to see that love is also everywhere, in all the ways we choose to give and receive it.
So this Valentine’s Day, I won’t be celebrating with a romantic partner, but with someone special—a friend, a sister. Because love, in its truest form, has never been about just one person. It’s about all of us. 💕
