Hi everyone!
I’ve been speaking to Starkerz from the Hive community. We first got into contact after I saw Charlie Shrem’s podcast: The First Blockchain Wars with Starkerz.
Podcast Link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=3PckZluSCNI&ab_channel=CharlieShrem
We had a chat about this part in particular:
Starkerz: I believe there should be a movie because the negotiations that were going on to try to bring the chain back to a neutral position were insane!
Charlie: I’m a movie producer, write me a script and we’ll make it!
So, we’ve decided to do exactly that.
We’re looking to take the first steps in developing a feature-length film based off the events that transpired with Steamit, Justin Sun, and Hive, while showcasing the power of Web3 – with step one being the development and creation of a script.
We envision the film being roughly 1.3 hrs in length, with the script running for around 100 pages.
The costs are:
Full-time scriptwriter £10,250
Part-time technical research and development lead - £3950
The timeframe for script completion is 2-3 months, and will include:
- Initial Brainstorming session(s) with key Hive community members
- Weekly consultations with key Hive community members
- Fortnightly AMA with the Hive Community
- Research and Development
- Film outline
- 1st draft of the full script
- 2-3 rounds of amends (depending on progress)
We think the final script should be signed-off by community members who are a part of pre-production (to show completion) but will not be released to the network until the film is finished and polished. Nobody likes spoilers after all!
Would the community want the final script public or private?

As you can see, I work primarily in the commercial and corporate world, but have done plenty of more informative projects as well.
In my spare time, I’ve been working on a 3-part fantasy novel, a series of graphic novels, comedy sketches, and a short film. I have also written several feature-length scripts that are not currently commissioned, so I’m very familiar with the format.
I’m also currently working on another blockchain project (signed NDA), where I’m writing video scripts for an upcoming platform, and I’m copy editing the white paper alongside it. This has offered me a better general understanding of the space, as I’m developing the content for the homepage coverfold, as well as multiple explainer videos and a dramatised script - telling the story of users and the benefits they’ll get from using the tech.
That said, I’m still pretty new to the crypto, blockchain, and the space so will need the aid of a technical researcher to help make sure that the events and technology are covered correctly. This is included in the costings:
We want your input
To help with the research it’d be great if you could help answer these questions:
1.Who do you think we should be speaking to get the full picture?
2.What are the main events we need to cover?
3.What film style does the community think the script should be based in? E.g a comedy or a drama, or examples of other films like Snowden or Don't Look Up.
As a note, we are going to give 50% of the funds generated by the blog back to the DAO and the rest will go to fund the proposal.
I may be an outlier in saying this but I think you should try and talk to Justin Sun and Ned. It seems like Justin was sold some magic beans by Ned and exploring that side of the story is very interesting. I believe this is necessary or the perceived villains in the tale will be unrelateble.
Of course speak to all the people listed in other comments but exploring all sides will make it more compelling.
I find it difficult to visuals a film because most of this played out in a faceless manner. I always thought a computer game adaptation would be a more suitable genre. But, Good luck with the work. I will be interested to see where this leads.
Thanks for your feedback @ammonite, we will try and get in contact with them. But they may not be too responsive 😅
In regards to the film, we will develop it with some creative twists and poetic licence so the audience is able to see the whole story and how it unfolded.
Hi @Ammonite, a few of the community members have said you would be a great contact to speak to about the timeline of events. If you are interested it would be great if you could connect with the research lead on telegram @thedeltron so he can have a chat with you.
Hi @filmmaking4hive. Sorry for my delayed response. I am currently in the middle of moving house and so have limited time on the net. When I get settled I will reach out to @thedeltron on Telegram and see if I can add anything from my perspective. Wishing you luck on this exciting project.
Hey @ammonite, how did the house move go? would you still be interested in helping out with the story for the script from your perspective?
Chapter 3: “Do you like Justin Sun or do you just want to fuck him”
I think he got his answer by now ^^
Might be a bit too controversial to include in the final piece 😂
This is historical accuracy...
The entire thing is recorded... Post that too... Hehe. Make this 80 hours.... Flag wars over radical veganism. All of it...
Double dog dare you....
We don't need whitewashing we need the truth!!!!!
No no circle back to you just want to fuck Justin Sun. Win win for everyone....
Town halls were the greatest ever.
I know this is a joke and everything but he is pretty hot and I wouldn't say no to going on a luxury yatch either! Or maybe a catamaran or something...
And, I know we are not at that stage yet, but I would love to contribute some music to this Hive film. A sample of my orchestral work is in this trailer:
The Smartest Guy in the Room the trailer looks brilliant! Great music, Let's keep in touch as we progress! Thanks for your feedback @deeanndmathews, I will check out
Yes, indeed!
While the Hive witnesses will be a great start and source of valuable information, the whole community matters, as not everyone can be a Hive witness. A questionnaire poll can help to get everyone (or at least various opinions) involved.
a) The Evolution Of Hive - How it all started. (b) Hive As a global community, getting some scenes from different continents as to the positive vibes impact Hive has on humanity, highlighting some charitable contributions the Hive community has made. This will create more publicity and a global appeal.
A mix of drama and comedy produced as a Series. But for a start, 1hr45mins movie will be cool. How most persons learnt about Hive will be cool.
Typed from my toilet seat 💺, and may be seen as 💩 idea.
I will like to work with you to bring the work to fruition.
Welcome to Hive Ryan.
Great feedback @emjoe, it would be awesome if you could help out with what to research and where to go!
It will be an honor. We can start the research from the first Hivefest or steemfest, and possibly include their locations.
I'm on discord with emjoe#7574 . Telegram @Emjoe1 or you can drop an email to [email protected]
Thanks mate, I will get @thedeltron, the research lead to reach out on telegram.
@emjoe @thedeltron has added you on discord to arrange a chat
Ok. I will check it asap
Good morning guys!
3:40 Own your account!
We should understand that...
6:50
We should use Web 2.0 for traffic funnel to bring people to Web 3.0 Hive :) @starkerz
26:50
@starkerz (DPOS) voting mechanism on Hive
Where we can see the % of the drop vote value if you vote for the same people...?
41:40
Yes, there are many front ends(Skins, websites) you can use to enter and post on Hive blockchain... @filmmaking4hive
Namaste
Thanks for the feedback @iliyan90. We will be looking to showcase Web3.0 to the world as well as make an epic film!
@filmmaking4hive
Namaste :)
@ned crashing the price of Steem and then selling it off to Justin. Maybe also make mention of the Ned and @dan break up leading to Ned totally fumbling steem.
How Justin stole a crap load of money from our witnesses and whales.
How Steem eventually failed. Theycallmedan, if I am not mistaken, tracked Justin selling off his steem majority stake anyways.
Great feedback @dynamicgreentk! Thanks for letting us know who to contact and what to research. Snowden is a great example to follow.
I do hope you can further this goal of yours with Starkerz and the rest of the Hive Blockchain!
Hey @theycallmedan, @edicted, @taskmaster4450, @thekittygirl, @crimsonclad and @shadowspub , would you guys be able to help us out with the timeline and story for the film? It would be amazing if we could have a chat.
Thanks again @dynamicgreentk, it would be great to chat to you about the price crash and aftermath as well.
Also, fyi The main front ends for Hive have a blog and post section. When someone travels to your page they see your blog section first which only contains what posts that you create and then you choose to it by selecting add to blog on said post or what you reblog from others. 🤓
Yes you can reach out at [email protected] if you want to talk about that. Also, I am at the threespeak discord; dynamicgreentk#1126
Cheers @dynamicgreetk , I will get my research lead to reach out to you over the weekend!
Also @theycallmedan, @edicted, @taskmaster4450, @thekittygirl, @crimsonclad and @shadowspub if you guys are interested in helping out, it would be awesome if you could connect with my research lead on telegram @thedeltron so he can discuss further.
@dynamicgreentk, @thedeltron has sent you a discord friends request.
I'm on discord .. not sure what help I can be but sure.. DM me
Awesome thanks! I will get my research lead to drop you a message over the weekend, his addy is @thedeltron
Hi @Shadowspub, what is your discord handle?
I'm shadowspub on discord and pretty much everywhere :)
Hi Guys, sorry for the delay, we have been busy working on other projects. Here is the next blog on what events we should be covering in the movie. - https://hive.blog/hive-166847/@filmmaking4hive/what-events-should-we-cover
I heard the full podcast and think it's a great idea. The genre would be like 'The big Short' to me, put under Biography/Comedy on IMDB, but maybe rather Bio/Thriller ain't it?
Thanks @manniman, a comedic angle like The Big Short really could work, especially with such a tense subject
I think so for sure
superb. I was excited by this when I first heard you speaking to starkers.
I saw a great article detailing the story recently.... I'll try to find it incase its not on your radar. Got to go now though...
Im also an actor and would love to be involved (especially if it goes down the 'dont look up'/ 'big short' comedy docudrama route)
Ive been around here since 2017 and would love to have some involvement!
my showreels:
I reckon I could nail being an awkward nerdy developer ;p
Great showreel @basilmarples, Let's catch up once the script is finished and see where you can fit in!
thanks man :)
this was the article. You might have already read it....but its got some pretty good pointers for a narrative framework (assuming its all true!)
https://decrypt.co/38050/steem-steemit-tron-justin-sun-cryptocurrency-war
So stinkin' excited about this, @filmmaking4hive and welcome to Hive! When I first heard about the movie idea a couple months back, just for fun I put together some (very brief) thoughts and notes I thought might work well. Then I got the impression the project was leaning towards more of a straight up documentary type of thing, which bummed me out a bit as I thought might make it less accessible to the general public. But now seeing question 3... whoo hoo!
At any rate, here's a bit of feedback & I might jump in with some more at a later time (I'm currently recovering from Covid, so my brain might still be a bit fever-addled... more than my usual life-addled brain...lol). Oh, and to clarify, I'm just a longtime blogger who joined the legacy chain back in 2017, then became a ride-or-die Hiver after watching the events that unfolded during the takeover.
1.Who do you think we should be speaking to get the full picture?
Definitely the Hive witnesses, especially those who were highly involved in the Town Hall meetings & discussions with Justin & his assistants.
CZ from Binance, CiaraHuobi from Huobi (although from the looks of her Twitter account, she might be hard to reach) and someone from Poloniex (they were unsurprisingly quiet during the hostile takeover & afaik didn't have a rep discussing anything with the Hive community, unless you count Justin).
Also, if you are able to get the person behind community321 on Stxxm to anonymously discuss their amazing White Hat move, that would be super cool.
2.What are the main events we need to cover?
I think maybe starting before Justin even arrived, to give a little bit of background on Ned & Dan L and how the DAO came into existence would be good. Then (in brief) Dan's departure, Justin's arrival, the initial community & company (as those working for Stxxmit Inc found out at the same time as the rest of us) response. After that, maybe follow the timeline in the awesome Decrypt article.
3.What film style does the community think the script should be based in? E.g a comedy or a drama, or examples of other films like Snowden or Don't Look Up.
I had it in my mind that the script should be a blend of fiction (small bit) and fact, with an eye towards Zombieland & its quick, humorous asides explaining "the rules." Might be a more palatable way to present some of the more brain hurty concepts about crytpo & blockchain. And while this isn't a particular film style, I thought maybe as a framework, using the pending court case as the backdrop, and creating two fictional characters (court reporter & community member) as the vehicle for telling the story.
Cant' wait to see this project become a reality!
Hi @traciyork, thanks for the extensive feedback and info. It would be great if we could talk further. If you are interested in helping out could you message my research lead @thedeltron on telegram and he can talk further with you?
You're very welcome, @filmmaking4hive. Oh and as for sending a message through Telegram...
A documentary film has already been funded a month ago. I for sure would love to see different takes on the story as well.
The documentary we are making is aiming for broader appeal so theres always room for a different approach.
Hey @lordbutterfly, great to hear from you. We would love to find out more about the documentary and the story you have put together. It would help make sure we are hitting all the right points but also produce a piece that doesn't cross over too heavily to your work. Could you reach out on telegram to my research lead and he can arrange a call? His telegram is @thedeltron

Hey this sounds cool would like to be on it lol probably probably not lol anyhow best of luck
Hey @polarmystro, if you can help out that would be awesome!
Is it connected with the documentary or another film?
Hi @urun, no we are not, but I would love to speak to the guys making the documentary about it for some of the research!
@lordbutterfly is the man behind.
Definitely NOT a comedy. It was a very stressful time and we mobilized to fight Justin Sun. There's was a lot of stress, loyalty and uncertainty during that time. I think that needs to be reflected. There was nothing funny about it!
Thanks for your feedback @notconvinced, we will make sure that the stress and gravity of the events that occurred are fully understood in the film.
Hi @notcoinvinced, it sounds like you were in the thick of it, it would be great if we could pick your brain to help us really get an understanding of the events. If you are interested, could you message my research lead @thedeltron on telegram so we can discuss further?
Sounds like a great project! I’d be happy to chat with you. I was the Head of Marketing and Communications for Steemit during that time. I’m actually the one who introduced Tron to the Steemit leadership.
Sound amazing @andrarchy, let's have a chat once we get this rolling. It sounds like you can really help us out with understanding the story!
Mhnnnn I’ll love to read from your opinion exactly where it all went wrong.
Thanks! Look forward to sharing my perspective
Even a lot of us who were there through the whole saga would love to hear more detail of what went on.
There seemed to be a huge miscommunication from all parties as to what was bought, what was promised and what was the intention from all sides. It would be great to hear more facts after the tension has left and emotions dropped down a peg.
Hey @niallon11 and @mistakili, sounds like you guys were both part of the events and could help out with us getting an understanding of the events that went on. If you are interested could you message my research lead on telegram on @thedeltron and he can discuss further? Cheers
I was here through the whole event and would have an insight to what we saw from the fringes but i couldn't say that i had much part to play other than active participation in what was being organized by others.
I was still just a small user at the time and listened and talked with the rest of the community about how we felt along the way. Got behind the plans as they were revealed there would be a lot better to talk with.
Happy to help but wasn't a large part of any of the events. Just a participant.
Amazing! Thank you, how best to contact you?
Hey @andrarchy, thanks again for your support. Could you message my research lead @thedeltron on telegram so he can speak further with you?
To answer your questions:
I think you should speak to the original developers, and some of the first community members but also it might be cool to have a chain-wide interview where people can answer a standard set of questions on video (or text or whatever) for possible inclusion in the project. Depends on what direction you end up taking I guess.
I can’t say I have anything new to add here that hasn’t already been covered in the other responses.
I’m leaning towards a documentary with both comedic and serious aspects. Some of what happened was pretty bizarre and it makes sense to own that.
☮️
Hey @elementm, thanks for your feedback. Great suggestion, we are going to have initial and fortnightly AMA sessions. So we will do a video call where people can message in their questions beforehand.
Cool, that sounds like it could give everyone a chance to say what needs to be said 👍
Very nice post and cool
Thanks @nicolasbernada!
Oh yeah and welcome to Hive and thanks for coming here!
