Salvete, Hive! Introducing @titus.andronicus

Brothers in arms, seekers of glory, and admirers of the art of war—hail to you. I am @titus.andronicus, and while my namesake was once a Roman general loyal to the Empire and a man not easily swayed by matters of the heart, I now find my loyalty to a different kind of empire: the realm of war films, battle-scarred music, and the art of combat as depicted in our culture.

For those unfamiliar, the legend of Titus Andronicus tells of a man of unwavering dedication to Rome, a man who once served the queen of the Visigoths a feast made from the flesh of her own two sons. Though grim, such a tale speaks to the lengths warriors will go to honor their own, to avenge, and to seek justice when wronged. My connection to this name is one of spirit, loyalty, and fierce dedication to that which stirs the blood and quickens the pulse—the sights, sounds, and stories of battle.

The Glory of War on Film

The depiction of battle on screen is something that, when done right, pulls you deep into the heart of combat. Few films achieve this with as much gut-wrenching emotion and raw authenticity as Hamburger Hill or Platoon. These films don’t sugarcoat the chaos; they dive headfirst into the mud and blood. War isn't glorious, but the stories of those who fought in them are essential, and these films honor the fallen while also reminding us of the grim cost.

Then there are the historical epics, the grand tales of warriors and empires. Braveheart—the story of William Wallace fighting for Scotland’s freedom—is a personal favorite, as it captures not just the tactics of war, but the spirit behind it. The Patriot brings that same intensity to the fight for American independence. These films show that war isn’t just about the weapons or the strategies—it’s about the reasons behind the battle, and the unbreakable will of those who fight for what they believe.

Battle Cries in Music

The realm of music is no stranger to the themes of battle. Heavy metal, in particular, resonates deeply with me for its epic, almost mythical portrayal of war. The thunderous drums and shredding guitars mimic the clash of swords and the roar of battle. Bands like Sabaton, who famously weave historical battles into their songs, feel like bards retelling the greatest wars in our history. However, Gwydion’s album Veteran holds a special place in my heart.

Veteran isn't just a collection of songs—it's a tribute to warriors past and present. The lyrics speak of sacrifice, honor, and the unbreakable bond between brothers in arms. I find myself drawn to it over and over, not just for the music, but for the deep connection it forges between man and the battlefield, where loyalty and blood run thicker than water.

Art of War

It’s not just film and music that stir the warrior's heart; combat has been immortalized in the fine arts for millennia. From ancient Roman reliefs of legionnaires in battle to Renaissance paintings of knights and crusaders, the art of war has always been a part of our collective story. My intent here on Hive is to explore not just the modern depictions of war, but also the classical works that laid the foundation for how we perceive honor, loyalty, and battle today.

Why Hive?

I've found that Hive offers a unique place to share and connect with others who appreciate these themes. Whether it’s through discussions on the best war films or a debate about which metal album truly captures the spirit of battle, Hive’s community-driven approach allows for deep dives into the stories that define humanity’s most intense experiences.

Though I owe much to those who brought me here—unlike the fabled loyalty I showed Rome and the empire in days of old—those friendships remain more acquaintances than alliances. My true allegiance is to the films, music, and art that showcase the eternal conflict, from the ancient world to the modern battlefield.
