Garden and rabbit update

in Blessed Lettuce6 months ago (edited)

It's finally happening!

This year it seemed like the garden got a slow start, temps have been a bit all over the place but last week we had a dreaded heat wave and some big rain and that seems to have made everything explode!

Last year snap peas came much earlier, they started flowering and have finally started giving peas! think pea flowers are one of the most beautiful <3

We transplanted our tomato and sunflower about a month ago, the sunflowers (russian mammoth!) are now close to shoulder height and the pole beans we planted underneath are coming up nicely and starting to vne up them. I was worried the sunflowers wouldn't be big/strong enough but they have won the race!

When we transplanted the tomatoes they were so small but they are growing like beasts and some are even starting to flower which seems earlier than last year???

I couldn't even guess at this moment how many tomato plants we have going, there are 3 maybe 4 varieties! Volkov, cherry, and an unknown from seeds we saved from a local farm. We also buried some of our split tomatoes last year so they are coming up in random places. I guess we will need to see what they produce.

Here is one of the tomato jungles (they are distributed across a few gardens)

Squash and garlic are also coming along nicely, garlic maybe harvested in a few more weeks, we planted around 65 so hope this haul will last the year...

(garlic and potatoes)

(One squash patch)

I've tried a new variety of radish (breakfast) and I think I like the taste better and they seem to grow well. Many have bolted and flowered now so waiting for yummy radish pods:

The one thing lagging is my cucmber, the first round we sowed got eaten by slugs >'< so we sowed a second round and so far they are hanging on LOL.

Last up I will leave you with a few more bunny GIFs. They are literally all over and multiplying. We have around 4 generations atm including a few brand new x-smol babies that have showed up this wee.

This little fella is cocky enough to jump up on the patio with me

I found this little guy had infiltrated a garden and was about to eat my dill and when I tried to get him out he jumped head first into the net as they do 😂

Nice to read this update!
You (guys) are doing well.
Seaside and Canada don't bring (successful) gardening to mind ( if I'm honest ).

The bunny GIFs are cute and hilarious, eventhough these critters might be a bit of a nuisance.

Sending a hug from a Summery Portugal!💚

We definitely have a shorter growing season due to weather so we have to make the most of it, the bunnies are super cute but I am chasing them out of the garden and reinforcing it all the time 😂

Hope you're doing well 🤗

I totally get it.

I have wild pigs visiting and messing up my garden, almost every night. That's a different kind of beast.

So far I haven't had much success growing stuff. Moving house every couple of months doesn't help. Fingers crossed that I can stay a bit longer here ( in fact, it starts to seem like it )

🤗
also to your 'dead cow' partner ;<)

The weather is like in my country
Heat in torrents and rain in the soup.
Like: don't you want heat? I send you rain, don't you want rain? I send you heat to the max
Congrats on your plants technically you are self sufficient in case of zombie apocalypse ...... 🧟🧌
What a nice rabbit and this one you already have meat to eat 🤤 wait it's your pet 😅 you still have meat when I start a....... Apocalypse.......... Zombies........

Well if I get hungry enough rabbit stew is definitely on the table lol

The plants on your garden are looking so well
They look very healthy
I like that

They have been doing very well this year 🌿

Wowww your garden looks great, everything has worked out and looks beautiful, the tomato plants... I can smell the aroma!!!!😍

I looove the smell of tomato plants, I like to run my hands through them so it sticks to me lol

It reminded me of my uncle's garden.... ripping ripe tomatoes and eating them right there, my goodness what a delight!
