Love Lives Here!

Hello!

Valentine has always been a great day we look up to once every year . It's a love day charecterised by exchange of beautiful gifts and lot of affections. Growing up, I used to see my sisters getting greeting cards and other lovely items from their loved ones. Then, I used to be thrilled by those gifts and wish I grew up faster to be celebrated as such by those who love me. Imagine, as the baby of the house my sisters wouldn't even let me touch their gifts, claiming no other person could touch it.

So, as I was growing, I used to wish someone came my way and pampered me like my sisters were being pampered by their boyfriends. I also used to see how new generation parents pamper and so free with their children. They could be so affectionate towards their children, kissing them on their forehead, cheeks and the likes. It was not the same with old generation parents, you know. They take life too seriously. Though they are loving and encouraging, they don't display or show affection the way it should be. My old mother did not have time to be wrapping gifts, presenting greeting cards or kissing my forehead as I watch in film series. So, it was always my wish to grow and meet someone that will exhibit all these affections, pampers me like a baby and wrap gifts for me.

If wishes were horses, they say, beggars would ride. Since I became of age, I only celebrated valentine once with my then boyfriend. We were so happy wrote each other some love letters and he got me a beautiful hand beads and earrings as gifts. I would be so happy but knew I couldn't take the gift home, as my parents would question me and wouldn't take it lightly with me. They were not even aware I had a boyfriend because I was only sixteen years old and they must not know. So, I had to hide my gift with a friend who I eventually caught at the market some months later, wearing my lovely bead.

Now that I'm of age, valentine gifts were not forthcoming.; Lovers were on strike. But I didn't let that stop me from celebrating others. I even heard some guys do break up with their girlfriends once valentine's day is close. To me, valentine is a day of celebrating love shared and it even goes beyond just two opposite sex that share intimate relationship. It's a day to celebrate love among friends, family, colleagues and any other loved ones.

So, for me on valentine's day, I make it a point of duty to text short messages and cute gifts to a least 3 of my loved ones. The cutest valentine's day I ever had was 2022 valentine, when I decided to celebrate the love between my friend and her husband. They have been such a lovely and supportive couple. I am their family friend and I have always wanted to celebrate them, and the great love they show me always. So, I contacted a pencil drawing artist. I got their picture and gave it to the artist to make a beautiful pencil drawing art. It was ready four days after which was on valentine's day. I headed to their house in the evening and surprised them with the beautiful picture frame. They really loved it and I felt so fulfilled. It was indeed a lovely moment for us.

This is my entry to the hivenaija weekly prompt.
