A Lesson From My Man.

in Hive Naija2 days ago

Relationships should not be only about you. A relationship has to do with two or more people and that is what makes it a relationship. With the little time I have spent on earth and be with different people, I can see that I have learned different things from different people, but I’ve been able to pick the positive ones that may be of use to me.
Also, the relationships I have had with people has made me discover the kind of person I am because without having people around you, you may never know how to react when you’re with people or in some situations.

Reflect on your personal relationships (romantic, friendships, family). What's the most valuable lesson you've learned from them? How has it impacted your relationships

I will start with a story here. One day, I was having a chat with my boyfriend. My sister brought me a cake from her boyfriend’s place but I never liked how the cake tasted so I threw it away.
Why will you throw the cake away because you didn’t like it and you even had to show it to your sister?, my boyfriend said to me when I told him that I threw the cake away. He mentioned that it simply means I don’t care about how other people feel.
To me, I didn’t know. I only threw the cake away because I didn’t like it but he just said I didn’t care about how she felt and asked me to apologize to her.

Apologizing to her wasn’t a good idea to me but I did. After I apologized, she then told me that she felt bad after I told her that I threw away the cake. In her mind, she planned not to ever give me anything again. Just imagine that. I never knew she took it seriously to that level.

You sometimes treat me that way too. Don’t think about you alone. Think about how the other person will feel and how you will feel if that is done to you, he said to me and I held that.

I think that’s the most valuable lesson I’ve learnt from someone. Ever since then, before I do something, I think about how the other person will feel. Yeah, I know so many people don’t think about how others feel and that may be because they are not aware of their attitude or what they do to people.

How has this impacted my relationships?

It has boosted my relationships. Most times, I find myself having issues with people but I never believe that I’m wrong but since the time I started to think about how people feel, I had peace. I was able to build long term relationships with people.

This isn’t just a lesson to only me but you as well. Let’s learn how to treat people well. Before you do something, think about how the other party will feel before you do it. Feelings go a long way and when you make people feel good, you tend to be a happy person too.
