THE TROJAN HORSE FOR OUR FUTURE GREAT MINDS

During the twentieth century every child was a child, they didn't grow up too fast and still retained their childhood without the trash the twenty first century has brought.
But now in that modernized new gen z world children only remain as children until they achieve the ability to comprehend things which is very fast. They suddenly become aware of things that only an adult should know and have access to.

The other day my coursemate told me that she had caught two little children in her compound touching each other in a way that was definitely not childish. She scolded them and In a fit of rage almost beat them up, when she told the mothers of the children they could not believe their ears. They later asked these two kids where did they learn such acts from and they replied " we saw it on tv". These kids were 4 and 6 yrs old.

Most parents give their children too much privilege to watch tv as they please without any guidance whatsoever. The human mind works in a way that when it sees something of interest it becomes difficult to unsee it. Children might be scrolling through the channels with an innocent mind but when they stumble on something that isn't age appropriate for them (wether sexual or not), in a 10 out of 10 cases, curiosity would always kill the cat, they would always want to know more because children are always curious.

I grew up in a household that did not even know what a PG button in a remote was and finding age inappropriate movies to watch was quite easy because that was all they ever showed on it and I believe there are many children who were in similar families like mine. Some parents say that their children would not have phones till they are eighteen but yet their tv programmes are not restricted nor guided. I didn't have a browsing phone till I was eighteen but yet I had already seen age inappropriate content on tv.

Some movies show PG 13 but yet as an adult I still blush and have to fast forward some scenes because of their content. I had asked a fourteen years old to recommend some movies for me because I didn't know what to download and he recommended " game of thrones". I was 300% surprised because even I that am an adult have not gathered courage to watch this movie yet he has.

One thing is for sure my dear reader and it is that regulating what your child watches is not as easy as regulating where they sleep. Some cartoons are no longer considered cartoons ( if you know what I mean), so the next time you're allowing your kids to watch certain movies you might want to watch them first yourself because that PG sign at the top doesn't always regulate the content properly.

I say this is a Trojan horse because all these modern day gadgets may seem like a relief to you as parents because your kids can be focused on whatever is on the tv or phone while you can accomplish your day's work. But underneath that relief, you might be giving your child a higher chance or possibility to acquire some certain information that are not appropriate for him/her at that stage.
I'm not saying don't let them watch tv altogether, please don't get me wrong. What I am saying is that do not trust the PG rating, do not give your child too much freedom with the devices and make sure to use that PG button on your remote control with a strong password.
